Book Description

March 1, 2010 Cabbages & Roses
From city high-rises to seaside cottages, the great manor homes of England to the smallest beach house on the other side of the Atlantic, the beauty of the Cabbages & Roses brand is the gentle but highly visible vintage design. This lavish book embodies all locations - country, city and coast. Chapters encompass Classic Country, Modern City, Island Country and Outdoor Country. Homes that bring together the old and the new, evoking the atmosphere of each season, sit beside city spaces where urban living combines with vintage style - think faded florals and ticking fabrics softening an industrial space, splashes of colour to enliven it and contrasting textures to add interest. Coastal dwellings are fresh, breezy and dreamy - beautifully suited for beach living. The book shows that the country can come to the city, that the city can benefit from coastal settings and that Cabbages & Roses is a gentle, unassuming and, above all, beautiful asset to any home as it easily complements all environments.

3.0 out of 5 stars AT HOME WITH COUNTRY May 5, 2010
By LIZZY
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I expected more ideas from this book due to the cover...I thought I would see several photos and ideas on traditional country as well as more updated visions of country. While some photos are nice, it is more of a fabric catalogue for the company CABBAGES & ROSES. This would be okay, if they stretched out their ideas with more interiors...I was not very impressed or inspired.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ok, not the best one, but Ok June 15, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really love Cabbages & Roses, and I have all the Christina Strutt' s books, I think.
I especially loved her guide to green housekeeping, which is more than interesting.
This book has really beautiful pictures and some ideas are interesting, but it is true
that it looks more like a gorgeous brochure for all their fabrics. Each room is different,
with different styles, the only common points are the Cabbages & Roses fabrics, which, sometimes,
look a little weird in these kinds of situations.
By the way, even if the pictures are great, I don't always like the styles of these rooms.
It is more like they had to make a book to make a book, not really to tell a new story.
I give four stars, because this book is pleasant after all, and I like the author, but if it had
been written by someone unknown, I think I would have just passed it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book!!! March 29, 2010
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book after seeing it on Design Sponge and it did not disappoint! The book depicts a number of different homes in this book -- beach houses, country houses, lofts, farms - even a houseboat! There is even an apartment in NYC, it really shows that you can give your home a country feel no matter where you live. This book is so inspirational - the look is so accessible and homey, yet really put together and elegant. Highly recommend!
