Book Description

April 1, 2001
At Home in the Kitchen is a fresh, new approach to cooking. Supported by an interactive Web site, the book is the first of what is sure to be a popular new way of helping busy working women, particularly executives -- who have very little time available for planning and executing complicated, exotic dishes -- to prepare excellent meals every day. Having designed the book to take the mystique out of cooking, Jorj Morgan encourages readers to embrace cooking at home as a form of personal and group entertainment. Among the many helpful elements that make At Home in the Kitchen a uniquely helpful cookbook are:
-- Instructions on kitchen organization
-- More than 230 easy, fun, and delicious recipes
-- An easy-to-read, step-by-step format, with no more than ten steps per recipe
-- Recipes sorted by cooking techniques, from easiest to more elaborate
-- Organized into foods the reader could eat in a restaurant
-- Many tips, including definitions of terms, cooking methods, tips on substituting ingredients, and dish presentation
-- Three indexes -- food groups, ingredients, and cooking techniques
-- Web site support devoted to encouraging cooks to prepare food creatively by using the recipes in the book as a guideline, inviting Web site users to share their cooking experiences, finding answers to questions, and updating new recipes and menu plans

At Home in the Kitchen is a unique cookbook for the information age, combining the traditional nature of a cookbook with the flexibility of a Web site.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

My expertise in the culinary field includes 25 years of entertaining and 22 years of being a mom. I have made plenty of errors and been surprised on more than one occasion with compliments. All the while I have built self-confidence in my own ability to be creative in the kitchen and share that creativity with friends and family. My hope is that this book will give you the same confidence to enter the kitchen and begin the adventure.--from the introduction

More About the Author

Born, April 19th, 1953, smack dab in the middle of the other 77 million Baby Boomers, I am today a proud grandmother, author, happy home chef and passionate blogger on my self-created websites Jorj.com and FromNanasKitchen.com. I write about "entry-nights", yummy appys, entrees, desserts and drinks, theme parties and other F-U-N ranging from the laid back to the black tie. My favorite thing in the world are twists on 50's dinner classics, especially when I get the chance to "kick it up!" with a contemporary twist.

Okay. Here comes my culinary resume--try not to get dizzy!

I am the Lifestyle Director and Food Expert at BlueSuitMom.com and contributor to several other mom-oriented websites, including the "Expert's Corner" on BizyMoms.com, where I dish on a wide range of domestic topics, such as winning over picky eaters, pantry stocking tips and the latest time saving devices in kitchen gadgetry.

On the nationally televised front, I hosted a Kitchen Spaces segment, which appeared on the Food Network. I have appeared on nationally syndicated television programs The Daily Buzz, Daytime and At Home Live, as well as Good Morning Texas, Cookin' with Carol and QVC. It has also been my pleasure to record two NPR segments with Linda Gassenheimer on her program, "Dinner in Minutes".

I'm also quite proud of my spokesperson work with Proctor & Gamble, the Florida Citrus Growers, Smucker's, SKYY Sport and Hershey's Chocolate. I use everything I've learned (and eaten!) to help the typical American family achieve a healthy balance between work and home--realizing, along the way, how surprisingly easy fine dining can be. My precious grandchildren make this an enjoyable and very special mission statement, so I hope you'll get on board and follow my Nana Network and cooking blog today!

5.0 out of 5 stars No more than ten steps per recipe June 7, 2001

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch instruction for the uninitiated May 3, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Jorj Morgan's "At Home in the Kitchen" is a refreshing change from the typical "how to" cook or entertain books on the market today. If you're like me and you know how to boil water to make pasta, grill chicken on your Foreman grill, or spoon out pre-made cookie dough from a tube, but don't have too many other cooking skills, THIS IS YOUR BOOK! You learn to take time out of your work week, skip the fastfoord, and make great, tasty meals for you and your friends. She takes time to explain the basics in a non-uppity way, but the recipes aren't ordinary by any stretch. Two personal favorites of mine are the Roasted Salmon in the Grass with Cucumber Sauce and My Favorite Cheescake. If you read her forward closely, you see a personal commentary on the literal importance of "breaking bread" with family...it carries through the book and adds to her written charm!

5.0 out of 5 stars I finally feel "At Home In The Kitchen" May 2, 2001
Format:Paperback
Of every room in my home, the kitchen is the place I avoid like the plague. It's embarrassing when your 15 and 13 year old children are better cooks than you at forty-something. Honestly, I really CAN burn water. With At Home in the Kitchen I feel as though I can actually step in to this room and step out with a beautifully prepared and delicious meal.

What set's this cookbook apart from any other is the website. For the first time you can see the finished product up close. In addition, Jorj Morgan had the insight to have her recipes tested by a diverse group of individuals ranging from homemakers to business and community leaders. Their comments and suggestions are on the website that accompanies the book making for an interactive culinary experience second to none.

Look out Emeril! Jorj Morgan has given us a "Bam" of a book.
