4.0 out of 5 stars I DIG IT!, January 25, 2002

WOW! This CD is incredible. I love techno music, but lately I've been craving something on the softer side of electronica and this CD hits the spot. I wanted to give this one 5 stars, really, I did, but it has a flaw. The third and fourth songs left me saying "huh?" Not that I didnt like them, but they belonged on that CD as much as Nine Inch Nails belongs on a Country Music Hits CD. The rest of this CD is ambient, ethereal, trancy in a very relaxing yet inspiring way. Tracks 3 and 4 had an acid jazzy sound that didnt flow with the rest of the songs on the CD. "Greece 2000", "Beautiful,Strange", "7 days and one week", and "Cafe Del Mar" are the most excellent songs. Overall, I strongly recommend this CD. I also highly recommend you write a review of your own on something sometime, even if you know nothing about it. This is my first review and boy did it feel good. Think about it, you get to talk like you're all cool, confident, in control, and totally sure of yourself, and nobody knows the difference! Try it sometime!

4.0 out of 5 stars The title fits the bill, January 3, 2002

I reviewed this CD when it was received at my radio station, and I must say I was blown off my feet. The remixes of Greece 2000, 7 Days and One Week and Cafe Del Mar make this soo worthy of your purchase. They are both transcending and relaxing, yet energetic at the same time. That dreamy, blissful, relaxing feel to the whole CD is a welcome twist to those trance anthems, and marks a return to what trance really is (by the dictionary definition), what it used to be in the early 90's and what it should be.

Unfortunately, the tracks get a little weaker in the middle of the disc, with #4 almost ruining the whole thing. Thankfully the first track and last two tracks are so uplifting and powerful, they overcome the weakness of track 4.

The remainder of the tunes are nothing to write home about, but no slouch either. Track 9, "Beautiful" is a well played radio song in its original form. Track 5, "Beautiful Strange" is a nice rework of the Bedrock song. And props should go to Moby's early big hit in "Go", although I've heard better mixes of it appropriate for this kind of compilation.

I didn't give this CD five stars because of the one black mark on it, but it is definitely worth a buy and a CD I have added to my personal collection. And a good indication of how likeable the CD is was when I had some to give away- tons of callers (who never normally call) clamored to snatch it up. This compilation will be a timeless listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth sounds., October 27, 2001
This review is from: At Home @ Sunrise (Audio CD)
Didn't know what to expect when I bought this CD. I had listened to two or three of the tracks (...) The more I listen to it, the more I like it. It's very different than many other electronica CD's out there, very moody, atmospheric, and lots of different flavors. Above all else, I think it's very smooth, not in terms of the mixing, but in terms of the listenablity of the tracks and the beautiful vocals on several of the tracks. If you get this CD, be sure to pick up it's sister CD, "At Home at Sunset". The pair make for excellent listening if you're trying to chill out, relax, cram for that midterm tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM, you get my drift ;) .

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall worthwhile CD, January 2, 2003

A great compilation of ambient, chill-out, and low-key trance works. This CD brings together a lot of interesting tracks.

I'd say that the quality and tone is a bit inconsistent. Some of the tracks I usually skip since they either break the tranquil yet powerful mood established by the album or the quality of the remixing is somewhat disappointing. Others, however, are a musical balm, building and invigorating while being subtle and smooth. I particularly recommend "Beautiful Strange", "Jabberwock", and "Cafe Del Mar".

Overall, the CD has enough top-notch material in it that I think it's a worthwhile purchase. It also can be a great introduction to chill-out techno for people not experienced with this genre of music. You may end up not listening to the whole CD after the first couple of plays, but it's still a good one to have on your shelf.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good, October 4, 2006
This review is from: At Home @ Sunrise (Audio CD)
I got this along with @ home @ sunset for Christmas when it first came out and most of this album is really good, however tracks 3 and 4 don't seem to fit into the mood of this cd. Don't let that stop you from purchasing it since its one of the better ambient/chillout cd's out there.
