He shares with us from a wealth of memories taken from the full decade he spent working at Rock Hudson's estate.

Full of wonderful stories and lavishly 'illustrated' with hundreds of beautiful photographs, this book is a real treat for Rock Hudson's fans.
M. Pittenger
I was also thrilled to note that a number of items which are now in my personal collection of Rock Memorobilia are also shown in this book.

As a rabid Rock Hudson fan for over 40 years, never have I found a book before this one which truly encapsulates that wonderful star's entire life, including and after the days of his death. The tales of Marty's time spent with Rock are at once heart-warmingly funny and sad, and I have learned more about the real man in this ONE book than in the zillions of fan magazines, articles, and books I collected in all the years before. Besides the stories, the array of photographs are amazingly personal; it really IS like looking through Rock Hudson's very own memory album. I can't WAIT for the next volume to be published!

What a fascinating effort this book is, over 300 large size pages full of extremely rare photographs and fascinating behind the scenes stories of Rock's life. As the author says, this book is an "Un-Corrected Proof," meaning there are typos and mis-spellings (i.e., Bette Midler's name is spelled "Middler") but that's part of the charm. This is obviously a labor of love. The author was an insider in Rock's life for a long period of time. He knows, and tells, what really went on, and illustrates the text with rare photos and memorabilia he inherited from Rock himself. As paperback books go, it's pricy, but worth it. You just don't see books like this. It must have a fairly limited print run and the color printing on so many pages couldn't have been cheap. If you're interested at all in Rock Hudson or Hollywood inside stories this book is a must-have and probably will become a collector's item.

Reading this book, you'll have a wonderful insight view of Rock's behind-the-screen life, the man behind the movie star, his friends, his tastes, his life style from the inner. You'll find many items that Rock once owned and also a lot of anecdotes about him.....

It's a `scrap-book' of Rock's life... not a classical biography. So don't expect a chronological review of his career but the book is done by themes and anecdotes.
So really a must-have book for any Rock Hudson's fan. I love the remembrances, the little stories that make History so I haven't been disappointed with it.

Midwest born and raised and a child of the 90's, I had no idea who Rock Hudson was beyond the fact that he'd been an actor, one who had died of AIDS, but that's about all. Like the author in this book, I had never even seen one of the movies which made him famous. I knew he was an idol of my mom's and my aunts when they were younger, and then after this book I learned so much more. Mr. Hudson was a part of Hollywood history; no, a part of world history. If not for his death, perhaps the face of humanity w ould been completely different. With the way the scourge of AIDS was spreading at that time, the disease could have easily gotten out of control and killed millions more. But because of this famous person's bad luck, governments started getting involved in trying to find a cure, which is part of what I consider the "history lesson" of this book.
I encourage other young adults like me to read this book, not only for the entertainingly vintage photographs and informative and unusual tales of both "Old Hollywood" lore and the late actor's life, but to help us better appreciate our own lives in this world of today. A world where AIDS can now be managed, due in part to the sacrifices made by this movie star they called Rock Hudson.

I've read many book reviews here on Amazon and in other places that used the all too familiar line, "I couldn't put it down." I've even bought some of those books and most of the time I found that I could most definitely put them down. From the moment that "At Home with Rock Hudson: ..." arrived, and I picked it up, I'm sorry but I have to say it. I simply couldn't put it down. It grabbed me and didn't let go until I'd read every last word. Martin Flaherty has a most genuine style of writing: earnest, sincere, straightforward and never slights his reader with skimpy, anemic anecdotes. Flaherty writes rich, detailed recollections of Rock Hudson as, at first his employer, then a close personal friend. He shares with us from a wealth of memories taken from the full decade he spent working at Rock Hudson's estate. The author writes intimately in a down to earth fashion that makes his reader forget that Marty's not sitting across the table verbally sharing these wonderful stories and memories firsthand with them. For anyone who was an admirer of Rock Hudson and would like to learn volumes more about him as a celebrated actor or his intimate, anything but ordinary life, this is a book that will engross and captivate. You'll be able to go back in time and step inside of Rock Hudson's beloved home and peek behind the curtain of his very private life chronicled by lively, expressive narrative and pages upon pages of fascinating photographs. This is an honest book, but always written out of love and respect from the perspective of the truest friend. It will make you laugh; and it will make you sad; and then it will make you sorry when it's over.
