4.0 out of 5 stars Short sweet historical romance June 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very short and sweet historical romance that is the equivalent to less than 50 pages. It starts at a ball where 37 year old widowed Sophia, Countess of Winterbourne, sees her former impoverished Scottish lover, Ian Broderick, standing in elegant attire searching for someone. She's terrified he's looking for her and although confused about how he was invited to the premier event of the season, she's more terrified of the scandal that could be brought upon her and her 15 year old son. After the death and mourning of her husband, Sophia needed a break and went to Scotland pretending to be a titleless Miss, where she could simply escape. She met there an untitled groundskeeper Ian Broderick, a dozen years her junior, and started up a torrid affair. Now back in society, she can't imagine how he got there, but she does her best to escape only to be caught by William Ian Broderick Ferguson, Earl of Marlington. 25 year old Marlington's family were killed in an accident and he was miserable until he found Sophia. Unable to believe she could just leave him, he's been spending his time ever since searching for her and he's not willing to take no for an answer to get her back.

Like all of Ms. D'Allesandro's stories, this short story is sexy and engaging. It's much shorter than any of her other shorts stories I've read, but isn't missing in content to make this a quick enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely romance, but far too short November 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Sophia Mallory, Countess Winterbourne had a passionate affair with Ian Broderick, the gardener for the Scottish Earl of Marlington whilst on holiday in Scotland. But when she leaves to go home in London, she is horrified to find that he follows her. As much as she loves him, the difference in their social status will always keep them apart, as well as the fact she is years older than him. Or will it?

I loved this story. Both characters were empathetic. Ian was totally gorgeous...and I adored how he loved Sophia, despite the difference in their ages. The story is a delightful romance but far too short...it needed to be full length so that we could be with Ian and Sophia when they first met in Scotland. Even so, this is a delightful story which I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great short novel! August 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This novel packs a significant amount of story into a relatively few short pages, so it's a really great quick read. One of the things I like about Jacquie D'Alessandro's novels is the way she weaves ironic twists into the story line. "At Last" is a wonderful romance about two people who come together in a very unexpected way, and the historical perspective in the novel is just enchanting! I always enjoy Ms. D'Alessandro's books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy and charming February 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A dashing Scot in love with a lovely older woman. This is a short, steamy read that'll leave a smile on your face. The Hero was charming, heartbroken, devoted and madly in love. The Heroin was classy, determined to do whats right, heartbroken, in love and fun all at once. The two together are a fantastic pair. This book leaves you wanting more but at the same time cheering for happily ever afters. Wonderfully done, as ever, by Jacquie D'Alessandro.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, but well-developed historical romance April 26, 2013
By Cat Lyn
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I admit I'm an avid fan of Jacquie d'Alessandro. I've read nearly all of her historical romances and have enjoyed them immemsely. I was pleasantly surprised to find this as a Free Par-tay book offering.

Most romance ebook authors should pay attention to how she develops her stories. Even in such a short format, she told a balanced story between the male and female characters...both sides of the same coin, so to speak. Maybe because I'm older, I particularly enjoyed the age difference factor with the woman considerably older than the man. Hurray! Way to go, Jacquie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Sweet Short Story April 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really loved this short story! Sophia and Ian meet while Sophia is on vacation in Scotland. The two have a torrid, 6 week affair after which Sophia disappears. Ian spends the next 6 months looking for her and finally tracks her down in a ballroom in England. This is where the story really begins. Except for a brief flashback to give the reader background as to when and how they met, the story encompasses several hours over two days. Despite the short length, the author managed to write a story that drew in the reader and made you care about the characters. I would highly recommend this book. It's a great quick story for bedtime reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars A very short romance January 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story starts out good and the author gets you into the mix right away, but then I suddenly found myself being rushed to the door and told goodbye. I felt as if I had skipped many chapters, basically the body of the story to find out what happens at the end.
I would have liked to have seen more time building the body of the story so that the happy ending felt more gratifying.
