I've heard this version all my life. When the Prez and Mrs. Prez picked Beyonce to sing this song at the Inauguration I was floored!! What happened to Etta James?? Many times the original is the best. This is one of them.

There is no question about the legacy that Etta James has left behind. She had a very beautiful voice from beginning to end, yet she will always be recognized for one hit At Last. The song is very elegant, and still shines from the simplicity of her elegant voice she left behind. Hearing the news that she had died after a long battle with terminal cancer is just very deviating, beyond what words can say. While she did have fame, and unfortunately the excess battling physical and emotional abuse and vices, her sonnets have and still had the spirit as her voice had shown for years. Wherever Etta is, she will always be loved, and beyond At Last.

No one can sing this song like she did. It's been overused by commercials and movies, but it isn't old when you listen to it in it's entirety.

Back in 1942, At Last was the flip side of "I've Got a Gal In Kalamazoo" by The Glenn Miller Orchestra. It wasn't 'till 1960 that Etta James recorded it, but most people think of her classic version above all others. Etta James, herself, was outspoken when Beyonce sang it at the presidential innaguration -- complaining that it was "her song!" Whoever sings it, At Last is a good song, but it becomes great because of the incredible talents heard in this version. Each time I hear it, I fall in love with it all over again. Brilliant!

This is the classic song you know and are looking for! It is hauntingly beautiful and Etta James has such a warm tone to her voice. I could play this over and over and over again!! It has the old, tinny sound to it, but I don't think I would want to hear this remastered - it would lose some of the timeless quality and meaning to it.

A must have for any collection!
