It's no surprise to me that our President and his lovely wife, Michelle, chose Beyonce's cover of Etta James classic as their first dance. They must have seen the movie , "Cadillac Records", based in the South Side of Chicago in the 50's. I've always loved R&B, Doo-Wop, and oldies all my life. As soon as I heard the cover, I listened to the Etta James orginal. It's a note for note copy, down to track length. If you love R&B as I do, buy this download. I'm sure you will hear it as a first dance wedding song over and over for at least the next four years.

While Beyonce' has truned a lot of stones lately, especially with her latest album I Am Sasha Fierce, she still has yet to turn a stone with ballads. While I was fairly happy with her single If I Were A Boy, she needs to show that she can dominate wioth covers a bit more. her latest song from Cadillac Records, a cover of Etta James standard At Last is definitely one of her best solo covers since her duet with the late Luther Vandross of Roberta Flack's The Closer I Get To You. The song actually was a surprise that moved me so noblely. I really don't know why she doesn't even deliver songs like this one for her own albums. I think honestly this is something R&B / Soul really should need right now, rather than too much Hip Hop. I really hope Beyonce' takes that advice, and does try to make more cover songs like At Last.
