Biography

Unquestionably one of the greatest American rock bands ever, Creedence Clearwater Revival will best be remembered for their unique bayou sound popularized in songs like "Proud Mary" and "Green River."

Although their music evoked the raw, gospel-tinged sound of the rural South, Doug Clifford, Stu Cook, and Tom and John Fogerty actually hailed from El Cerrito, ... Read more in Amazon's Creedence Clearwater Revival Store

Of all the asinine posthumous slapdash collections served up since Creedence Clearwater Revival called it a career in 1972, this one is probably both the most elementary introduction to the band AND the most useless of the lot. It's worthwhile for a) those few who really haven't heard a damned thing of this band other than "Proud Mary" or "Travelin' Band" on oldies radio,or b) those whose music library goes by the rule, "If it wasn't in the movies, it ain't music." But for real fans (and they remain legion) - ignore it and get the real stuff. They made six breathaking studio albums (don't even THINK about the abominable "Mardi Gras") and two worthy postumous live albums. THAT is the Creedence library to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flick Hits July 11, 2000
Format:Audio CD
When all the smoke clears, there can be no doubt that Creedence Clearwater Revival was premier American hitmakers of the late '60s-early '70s.It is inevitable that filmkers would include Creedence songs in their soundtracks.Their swamp rock chooglin' and John Fogerty's raspy voice seem to invoke pleasent memories of not so long ago.In this compilation, you'll hear songs from these movies:AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON,FORREST GUMP ,WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM,THE WATER BOY,WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN,THE TWILIGHT ZONE,MICHAEL,THE BIG LEBOWSKI,and one or two others that escape me for the moment. All the songs qualify as classic Creedence, and there is not one filler track amongst them. This is a good album to start you onto the magic music that is Creedence;then move onto CHRONICLE 1&2,then the studio albums.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good beginner's compilation... June 10, 2007
By Mike
Format:Audio CD
...but if you want the really Nitty Gritty on Creedence, get the 2 Chronicle compilations.

However, those 2 albums neglect the awesome "Keep On Chooglin'" that is included here, because of it's use in the Hunter Thompson semi-biopic "Where The Buffalo Roam". And "Keep On Chooglin'" is a good enough song that should've been on Chronicle 2, in place of the extremely unnecessary "Susie Q (Part 2)".

If you got the Chronicle albums, get this for "Keep On Chooglin'". That's it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album Suits Me Well March 7, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
This is the first CCR album I bought. Not being a collector or an expert on music, I bought it purely because I like all the songs and remember most of them from when they were played on the radio, a long time ago. I can find nothing I don't like about the album. It is that same sound I remember from my youth, and it is so much fun to have it all compacted into a great album for great memories. I especially like the first song, Midnight Special, although I can't actually articulate why I like it so much--and CCR's version of I Heard it Through the Grapevine. I like Marvin Gay's version of the Grapevine song too, but I like this one even better. Keep on Chooglin' makes me smile, every time I hear it. Born on the Bayou reminds me of my own growing-up years, as do Susie Q, and Run Through the Jungle. I believe this album's feel good music could be enjoyed by anyone who likes their music with a strong beat and distinctive vocals.
