To ease Gozar's pain,
By
This review is from: At the Movies (Audio CD)
Nice compilation, 3½ stars. 4 stars if you don't already own much of Sting's discography. 4 ½ stars for NEED YOUR LOVE SO BAD, because you may have a hard time finding PARTY PARTY's soundtrack on CD.
( I found it...shortly after buying this compilation ) Based on this compilation's theme, the overall interest is somewhat diluted because many songs have been used in their original form in the movies to which they are related, as they are here too: tracks 1,2,4,7,9,10,16 and 17. Great songs, but those have nearly nothing to do with Sting's TRUE contributions to movies soundtracks up until 1997 ( year of release of this compilation, yes, before KATE AND LEOPOLD and THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE ) At least some of STING's vocal and/or musical contributions to movie world are here, like NEED YOU LOVE SO BAD, SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME, DEMOLITION MAN, ANGEL EYES and MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE. I would have gave this compilation 6 stars if SHAPE OF MY HEART had been preceded by Dominic Miller's guitar solo intro, as it can be heard in THE PROFESSIONAL's epilogue. No luck ! I'm afraid ( and glad ) that Sting's successful and prolific relationship with movie makers is a neverending story. In that respect, a 1997 compilation already seems outdated. An updated «kind-of-At-the-movies...VOLUME 1!» compilation with only TRUE Sting's movie collaborations would be great. I wouldn't mind to wait until May 2005, after the release of the movie ASHURA. Message to Gozar ( readers, see his/her review elsewhere ): All the info you're looking for is provided in the booklet. But anyway, here are the answers that should ease your pain : Track 1 : used in THE LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN ( 1982 ) Track 2 : from BRIMSTONE & TREACLE ( 1982, starring Sting ) Track 3 : from PARTY PARTY ( 1983 ) Track 4 : used in STARS AND BARS ( 1988 ) Track 5 : from SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME ( 1987 ) Track 6 : from DEMOLITION MAN Track 7 : used in THE PROFESSIONAL ( a.k.a. Léon ) ( 1994 ) Track 8 : from THE THREE MUSKETEERS ( 1993 ) Track 9 : used in FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL ( 1994 ) Track 10: used in TERMINAL VELOCITY ( 1994 ) Track 11: alternate version, from LETHAL WEAPON 3 ( 1992 ) Tracks 12,14 : from LEAVING LAS VEGAS ( 1995 ) Track 13: from the 1995 remake of SABRINA Track 15: from THE LIVING SEA ( IMAX, 1995 ) Track 16: used in COPYCAT ( 1996 ) Track 17: used in WHITE SQUALL ( 1995 )

Smooth Warm and Breathless,

My Favorite CD in my Sting collection. Some songs I've never heard before plus breathless remakes of some long dead classics. After hearing an old classic like Frank Sinatra perform (bellow) one of these old songs on the radio, I had to turn off the radio and quickly hear Sting's warm and meaningful version. Thanks for putting life, subtley, and romance back into these. The rest of the songs on the CD are multi-level masterpieces. Good CD for those long cross state drives. Only one mediocre song on this whole CD (that "All For One" pop trite with Rod Stewart).

Sting At the Movies--When is Vol. 2 happening?,
By Editornado (Redlands, CA USA) - See all my reviews

I have all the Sting albums and a video or two. This is my favorite collection, though, and truly worth the big bucks. Bring on Sting's smooth jazz, smoky voice, the ballads, the Latin harmonies and rhythms. He makes me swoon. And that's beside the fact that he's a fine-looking specimen!I'm eager to get the NEXT movie soundtrack collection, with the singles from Kate & Leopold, The Emperor's New Groove, that Brosnan-Russo movie, etc. Hurry, Sting! Your fans await, with fists full of dollars. The collection is a bargain, and we don't have to wade through all the soundtrack stuff we DON'T want, to get to what we DO want.

I loved Sting's rendition of "My One and Only Love" from "Leaving Las Vegas" so much that I was willing to pay the rather expensive cost for this collection! I was delightully amazed and surprised that almost all of the rest of the songs are so wonderful! Sting is such a versatile and prolific artist. His versions of "oldies" (e.g., "Someone to Watch Over Me") are so breathtaking and ever so sexy! I don't consider myself a long-time Sting fan. In fact, I only have one other Sting CD. But, if he continues to sing more oldies in his oh-so-very-breathless way, I would buy all the music he makes! And, yes, when he sings "My One and Only Love" - watch out, I have to get a partner to slow-dance with! Definitely a "10" in the romantic barometer.

A Collector's Must,
By
This review is from: At the Movies (Audio CD)
As a huge fan of Sting and The Police, as well as a huge collector, this is a must own CD; with songs that you just can't find anywhere else. This CD shows Sting and his true colors of his music in the different Motion Pictures his songs were featured in. I came across this CD in a small shop in Korea, and I never heard of it before. I was always wondering where I could get that song, 'Angel Eyes,' from the motion picture Leaving Las Vegas, and there it was on the back of the this CD! I can not tell you how pleased you will be, as I am, with a copy of this CD to listen too! Another one to check out, and I don't think its on here, and is hard to find as well, is 'Police Academy, Strontium 90'... With the FIRST original recordings from The Police!

Enjoy!,

A melange of great Sting tunes from the movies. Sticker-shock? Maybe, however -- a diehard Sting fan (myself included) would be spend much more time and money locating the soundtracks to these great tunes. "Moonlight" is my personal favorite, a mighty romantic one from the 1990s "Sabrina". "Angel Eyes" is another strong track, from "Leaving Las Vegas." Not a disappointing track on this CD. Recommended, definitely!

Cool, Jazzy, and Worth the money,
By A Customer
This review is from: At the Movies (Audio CD)
This CD is a little more expensive than others, but so worth it. The music is a great mix of jazz, blues, and romantic sounds. I found it easy to "get lost" in listening to it. The only thing that could have made it more perfect would have been the addition of "Until" (from the Kate & Leopold soundtrack), but it's great listening just as it is.Songs like "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Moonlight" make this CD a great Valentine's Day or Anniversary gift, too. I highly recommend this one.

Which Tracks to Which Movies???,
By Gozar (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: At the Movies (Audio CD)
Can anyone help me figure out which tracks are from which movies? I've read through some of the reviews posted and found that 'Angel Eyes' and 'My One and Only Love' is from 'Leaving Las Vegas'; that 'Moonlight' is from the 1990's version of 'Sabrina'; and I think that 'All for Love' is from the 'Three Musketeers' or a similar movie... but I can't figure out where the others were featured in movies. Can anyone help me? I love listening to this CD but almost give myself a headache trying to figure out the movie.

What can you say about this Man's Talent? now I'M not Crazy about much of his stuff after Nothing Like the Sun but still this Set Reminds you of the Genius of Sting When he wants it.His Work really goes well with Film.I might add he is a Creditable Actor unlike so many that try to be actors that are Musicians. All for Love is weak with Bryan Adams&Rod Stewart.but overall this is a Must.Sting is a Very Talent Writter&Musician.
