Reprint of a very important Napoleonic memoir,

This review is from: At Napoleon's Side in Russia: The Classic Eyewitness Account (Paperback)
Armand de Caulaincourt was one of Napoleon's most trusted confidants beginning in 1803 and going to the end of Napoleon's career. His memoirs of the Russian campaign of 1812 are the most important of such memoirs, and give an accurate portrait of Napoleon as a man as well as of the horrors of the campaign. Anyone who wants to study the 1812 campaign must start with this book. Jacques-Olivier Boudon, FINS, President of the Napoleon Institute at the Sorbonne, is one of the top Napoleonic scholars in France, and his introduction does an excellent job of setting the stage and putting things in perspective. This book should be read by anyone who wants to go beyond a simple biography of Napoleon.
J. David Markham, President International Napoleonic Society |
