Biography

What is cool? At its very essence, cool is all about what’s happening next. In popular culture, what’s happening next is a kaleidoscope encompassing past, present and future: that which is about to happen may be cool, and that which happened in the distant past may also be cool. This timeless quality, when it applies to music, allows minimalist debate – with few exceptions, that which has been… Read more in Amazon's Miles Davis Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Cookin' Under the Summer Sun, March 15, 2009
This review is from: At Newport 1958 (Audio CD)
The oftentimes hard to find double-album (Miles & Monk at Newport) Live at the Newport Jazz Festival is separated into the disc that delivered the incredible numbers from Miles Davis.

The tracks from the original dual release - Ah-Leu-Cha; Straight, No Chaser; Fran-Dance; Two Bass Hit; Bye, Bye Blackbird, The (Miles') Theme - are on the single CD. The band - Cannonball Adderley (alto sax), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Bill Evans (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Jimmy Cobb (drums) - is in outstanding form for the July 3 gig.

This is one of the best live albums in the vast Miles discography, with the performance cooking in the hot summertime.

2.0 out of 5 stars I am pretty sure I must be a lowbrow, July 11, 2009

Because I would probably have titled this album, "Tweekers with horns." There is a vast library of Miles Davis I much prefer. If you liked the old 33's played at 78 rpms, this is the album for you.
