Cookin' Under the Summer Sun,
This review is from: At Newport 1958 (Audio CD)
The oftentimes hard to find double-album (Miles & Monk at Newport) Live at the Newport Jazz Festival is separated into the disc that delivered the incredible numbers from Miles Davis.
The tracks from the original dual release - Ah-Leu-Cha; Straight, No Chaser; Fran-Dance; Two Bass Hit; Bye, Bye Blackbird, The (Miles') Theme - are on the single CD. The band - Cannonball Adderley (alto sax), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Bill Evans (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Jimmy Cobb (drums) - is in outstanding form for the July 3 gig. This is one of the best live albums in the vast Miles discography, with the performance cooking in the hot summertime.

Because I would probably have titled this album, "Tweekers with horns." There is a vast library of Miles Davis I much prefer. If you liked the old 33's played at 78 rpms, this is the album for you.
