Great book,
This review is from: At Risk: Earthquakes and Tsunamis on the West Coast (Paperback)
Easy to read, yet good technical depth. Although it focuses on the West Coast of Canada, it contains a good general overview of basic seismological principles.

A fascinating look at earthquakes in British Columbia and the Northwestern US. Hard to put down. The book is well written, easy to read and understand, and illustrated with many diagrams and photos from around the world, though most are from the region. It takes an historical look at earthquakes through the region with references to literature, folklore and geological research. It throws light on some of the gross geological features of the region. Anyone living for a years on the west coast of Canada and the US has experienced earthquakes, and many have experienced at least one large earthquake. They are part of our lives. This book helps understand the physical events surrounding an earthquake. A well edited, pleasant, intelligent read that covers the science without going into textbook depth.

A fascinating and very informative look at the present state of research and logical conclusions drawn from that research about the past history of and future potential for large-scale tectonic events that affect Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Geared towards the lay audience, the book admirably meets its objectives of educating and - really - warning residents of "Cascadia" of geological hazards that will have a major (and quite likely catastrophic) impact on those of us living in the area when it happens. A word to the wise...
