5.0 out of 5 stars fascinating book take what you want leave what you don't, November 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: At The Speed Of Life: A New Approach To Personal Change Through Body-Centered Therapy (Paperback)
This book is very insightful. Some of it is off the wall to me ,personally ,but the parts that interested me changed my life and philosphy. Recommended for anyone searching to find who they are. Recovering from bulimia or anorexia. Everyone should read it. It was shown to and is now at a counselling center in northern B.C. that deals with eating disorders.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, July 3, 2011
This review is from: At The Speed Of Life: A New Approach To Personal Change Through Body-Centered Therapy (Paperback)
Hello. This is the worst book I have ever read on psychotherapy/self-help, by far. (This makes the book very difficult to review/comment on, without being dispersed, since the number of flaws is important. After the first-hundred pages, one only founds eloquent names to daily, simple experiences; and only at about two-hundred pages, one arrives to the central technique that will solve all your problems: To breath deeply. This is, mainly, the so-called "body-centered approach", which is only reflected in a few small boxes within the text. I would have given no stars if possible.)

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can Breathe Again!, November 22, 2011
This review is from: At The Speed Of Life: A New Approach To Personal Change Through Body-Centered Therapy (Paperback)
I rarely write reviews but the negative one about this book compelled me to add my own $.02. I've had Graves disease, which is a thyroid disorder, and I quit taking that drugs but I had two symptoms that lingered. The first was a frequent cough and the second was being out of breath. Really out of breath, in a frightening way. I already owned Speed Of Life and picked it up to reread and begin using their techniques, especially the one on Magnification. From the very first session there was dramatic improvement and now, after approximately 1 1/2 years of suffering with coughing and lack of breath, I am mostly healed. And it happened quickly. I use Gay and Kathleen's techniques every single day and am totally confident that the least 10% or so will soon be only an unpleasant memory. I've read hundreds of books that are food for the mind - but didn't result in meaningful change. However, this book is about going to the BODY, where real healing can occur. So don't be put off by that negative review - this is a powerful therapy.

Also recommended: Achieving Vibrance by Gay. I have most of his books but these two are body-centered and thus my favorites. And yes, I can feel awful and in a few minutes of vibrance exercises, feel wonderful. The combination of the teaching in these two books has ended the whole "sick person" misery and I feel great.
