Underrated, the best Fozzy CD to date.,
By Axel Law "The Happy Seizure Kid" (Derby, KS, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All That Remains (Audio CD)
Fozzy is a band that originally started out as kind of a "joke" concept, much like Spinal Tap was. Fozzy is made up of WWE's Chris Jericho and the band Stuck Mojo, led by guitarist Rich "The Duke" Ward. While the first two discs had some original material on them, for the most part they were pretty much covering great bands' songs and making up a goofy storyline about how THEY invented the songs first but were taken by famous bands later. They weren't meant to be taken TOO seriously. Being a jerichoholic myself, I wanted to check them out for myself and determine if they indeed are a good band. I had purchased this album and the band's self-titled debut, and I must say that this third disc is a vast departure from their first two. No longer are there covers of rock's greatest songs, nor are there goofy names for the band members like "Mongoose McQueen." And most noticeable is the band's shift in sound; originally they sounded like an 80s hard rock band... now, they are a modern-sounding rock band, much like Soil or Godsmack. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily, as this disc is my favorite of theirs to date.
"Nameless Faceless" opened up the album and it hooked me from the start. Why a lot of Amazon people hate this is beyond me. The chorus is so infectious that you will find yourself humming this long after you're done listening to it. "Enemy," the single, followed it and it's much more melodic and definitely radio-friendly. "Wanderlust" is a slower track with Jericho's vocals in fine form, although I have to admit I was disappointed with Zakk Wylde's solo near the end as I have heard this guitar master do AWESOME solos before. Oh well, I guess. The title track follows it, a darker song with moody guitar structures and an overall melancholy sound. "The Test" is much more heavy metal-ish. There's a little bit of rap-style vocals that I didn't care for, but the rest of the song is very good. This one stuck in my head for days. The next track is actually my least favorite, "It's a Lie." Bonecrusher raps on this one and it's not a terrible song... still, I'm not into rap so this one didn't particularly grow on me. "Daze of the Weak" is an OK faster rocker with some excellent solos. Jericho puts some Christian-like lyrics in this one. "The Way I Am" is a midpaced somber track. This one's got a solo by Mark Tremonti. This one's also one of my favorites, which surprises me since this is one of the most modern from the disc. "Lazarus" has an oldschool flavor to it and it is the highlight of the album in my opinion (there is also a faint but noticeable guitar riff that sounds like Chris Benoit's theme). The band's in fine form here, and the album closes with "Born of Anger," a very angry track rhat is reminiscent of thrash metal like Anthrax or Testament. Very nostalgic for me. Overall, I find this to be an excellent disc from a very underrated band. It's got a couple of duds ("It's a Lie," "Daze of the Weak"), but the rest of the songs have superb musicianship. I think most people write off Fozzy simply because those people think that Chris Jericho and wrestling in general is a joke. Whatever your feelings are, give this album a chance because it's a great disc that deserves a listen.

All That Remains - Album of the year 2005 !!!!!!!,
This review is from: All That Remains (Audio CD)
This album is pure metal. Heavy guitar, heavy drums, heavy bass, and Jericho on lead vocals! This album is relentless from start to finish. Fozzy's 3rd record is a masterpiece. Guest appearances by Zakk Wylde and Mark Trmonti. Absolutely excellent record. This album is above and beyond what I could have imagined. Album of the year!!!!

All That Remains presents us with Fozzy's first attempt at all original music. And boy howdy, do they succeed. I've been instantly hooked on this CD. Bone crushing guitars, great vocals, and an amzing focus on melody without losing the ass-kicking. Highly reccomended.
