Underrated, the best Fozzy CD to date.,
By Axel Law "The Happy Seizure Kid" (Derby, KS, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All That Remains (Audio CD)
Fozzy is a band that originally started out as kind of a "joke" concept, much like Spinal Tap was. Fozzy is made up of WWE's Chris Jericho and the band Stuck Mojo, led by guitarist Rich "The Duke" Ward. While the first two discs had some original material on them, for the most part they were pretty much covering great bands' songs and making up a goofy storyline about how THEY invented the songs first but were taken by famous bands later. They weren't meant to be taken TOO seriously. Being a jerichoholic myself, I wanted to check them out for myself and determine if they indeed are a good band. I had purchased this album and the band's self-titled debut, and I must say that this third disc is a vast departure from their first two. No longer are there covers of rock's greatest songs, nor are there goofy names for the band members like "Mongoose McQueen." And most noticeable is the band's shift in sound; originally they sounded like an 80s hard rock band... now, they are a modern-sounding rock band, much like Soil or Godsmack. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily, as this disc is my favorite of theirs to date.
"Nameless Faceless" opened up the album and it hooked me from the start. Why a lot of Amazon people hate this is beyond me. The chorus is so infectious that you will find yourself humming this long after you're done listening to it. "Enemy," the single, followed it and it's much more melodic and definitely radio-friendly. "Wanderlust" is a slower track with Jericho's vocals in fine form, although I have to admit I was disappointed with Zakk Wylde's solo near the end as I have heard this guitar master do AWESOME solos before. Oh well, I guess. The title track follows it, a darker song with moody guitar structures and an overall melancholy sound. "The Test" is much more heavy metal-ish. There's a little bit of rap-style vocals that I didn't care for, but the rest of the song is very good. This one stuck in my head for days. The next track is actually my least favorite, "It's a Lie." Bonecrusher raps on this one and it's not a terrible song... still, I'm not into rap so this one didn't particularly grow on me. "Daze of the Weak" is an OK faster rocker with some excellent solos. Jericho puts some Christian-like lyrics in this one. "The Way I Am" is a midpaced somber track. This one's got a solo by Mark Tremonti. This one's also one of my favorites, which surprises me since this is one of the most modern from the disc. "Lazarus" has an oldschool flavor to it and it is the highlight of the album in my opinion (there is also a faint but noticeable guitar riff that sounds like Chris Benoit's theme). The band's in fine form here, and the album closes with "Born of Anger," a very angry track rhat is reminiscent of thrash metal like Anthrax or Testament. Very nostalgic for me. Overall, I find this to be an excellent disc from a very underrated band. It's got a couple of duds ("It's a Lie," "Daze of the Weak"), but the rest of the songs have superb musicianship. I think most people write off Fozzy simply because those people think that Chris Jericho and wrestling in general is a joke. Whatever your feelings are, give this album a chance because it's a great disc that deserves a listen.

All That Remains - Album of the year 2005 !!!!!!!,
This review is from: All That Remains (Audio CD)
This album is pure metal. Heavy guitar, heavy drums, heavy bass, and Jericho on lead vocals! This album is relentless from start to finish. Fozzy's 3rd record is a masterpiece. Guest appearances by Zakk Wylde and Mark Trmonti. Absolutely excellent record. This album is above and beyond what I could have imagined. Album of the year!!!!

All That Remains presents us with Fozzy's first attempt at all original music. And boy howdy, do they succeed. I've been instantly hooked on this CD. Bone crushing guitars, great vocals, and an amzing focus on melody without losing the ass-kicking. Highly reccomended.

I'm a big wrestling fan, and a big fan of Chris Jericho. I got a hold of Happenstance, and I liked it a lot, so I decided to give All That Remains a try. It blew Happenstance outta the water. This is their first all-originals album, and I was impressed. The fact that Fozzy has two lead guitarists who can play like this is mind-boggling.
1 - Nameless Faceless - One of my favorites on the album. Catchy and loud. 2 - Enemy - Great song, great video, I highly recommend you go and check it out. 3 - Wanderlust - I wasn't too fond of this song, mainly because its 3/4 time kinda threw it off. 4 - All That Remains - Starts slow and quiet, and gets louder later on. Excellent song. 5 - The Test - I don't know really what to say about this one. But it is good. 6 - It's A Lie - Very good song, I think Jericho and Bonecrusher play off one another incredibly well. I also hear a female vocalist in the bridge, who is that? 7 - Daze of the Weak - Like the play on words in the title, the song itself was all right. 8 - The Way I Am - No comment. 9 - Lazarus - Not a big fan of this song. 10 - Born of Anger - Excellent song. I did not know Jericho could blare out that chorus like that. Rich Ward and Marty Friedman's guitar solos are also unbelievable. In a nutshell, if you liked Happenstance, you will love All That Remains.

I have been a fan of all of Fozzy's albums, and I think ATR is the best yet. Enemy alone is worth the price of the album

When this band first started, they were...how do I put it? They were a joke. They were just having fun, playing around, that sort of thing. They didn't seem very serious about what they were doing. This album, All That Remains, changes everything. It shows just how much they've improved and evolved, and... It rocks! The songs are all pretty great. I try to choose one as a favorite but (as corny as this is going to sound) they all have this special place in my heart, lol! I can say that the best three songs on there are All That Remains, The Way I Am, and Wanderlust. I can't go one day without listening to at least one of those songs. Chris Jericho has amazing vocal skills. His voice is just awesome, which surprises me. He's always been just a wrestler to me --my favorite wrestler, but just a wrestler-- and then I listened to this and realized just how talented he is! I could go on all day about how fantastic this cd is, but who really wants to read that? I'll just end it with this. This cd is AWESOME, so if you don't have it now, GET IT! As for me, I'm gonna SPREAD THE FOZZPEL and anxiously wait around anticipating their next CD!

Fozzy blows the roof off!!!,

Do you have a good stereo system? Well if you don't, you're going to find out because this CD will rip your speakers to shreds when you find yourself cranking the volume to the max. Fozzy have managed to produce an album of sheer, relentless power. But unlike most of the hackneyed metal bands out there, they don't rely just on impact. The songs on this CD are listenable, interesting songs, complete with great harmonies in vocals and guitar, varied rhythms, and as others have said, combine the best of the old and new in metal. Great performances by Chris Jericho and guitarist Rich Ward. And you need a drummer who can pile drive this kind of sound right into your face and not be intrusive, and that's found in Frank Fontsere. This may rank as one of the best metal albums ever, but it's definitely one of the best in a long time. Work this good deserves to recognized -- buy it!!

Metal's Triumphant Return!!!,

This review is from: All That Remains (Audio CD)
Chris Jericho comes along and gives Metal exactly what it needs: a swift adrenaline shot right in the a$$! Suffer from chronic "metalpause" no more. This is old-school at its best. Great vox, heavy riffs, and catchy melodies abound. It gets a tiny bit "nu" in parts but that is trivial compared to the overall experience.
10/10! A+! Five Stars! Buy this now!!!

FOZZY! (Yes, there singer is a wrestler),
By HardRocker (My House, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All That Remains (Audio CD)
When Fozzy put out there first cd it took people by surprise. A singing wrestler! Most people thought it was just a gimmick to get money and cd sales. People listened to it and gave it a chance, and they realized that Chris Jericho could actually sing!
Fozzy released there second cd " Happenstance ". Yes, it was covers of other band's songs. But a few songs was Fozzy's own material. Fozzy finished off the cd with an AMAZING cover of Iron Maiden's " Where Eagles Dare ". And here we are. There third cd: All That Remains. So how is this one you ask? No covers. Yes you heard me right, NO COVERS! It's all Fozzy's own songs. Chris Jericho's vocals are some of the best I've ever heard. Who expected the guy we see on Monday Night Raw every week to be so good at singing hard rock?! The singing blew me away, I couldn't believe it. There is much more than singing though. After all, Chris isn't the only one in the band. Let's move on to their guitarist Rich Ward. He is perfect for the band. Head banging guitar riffs that mix perfectlly with the drums. I seriously believe he could be the next Kirk Hammett. The bass on this cd is excellent. Not much more to add to that. It's perfect. Overall, if you're looking for a great hard rock/metal cd, then this is definently the one. And Chris Jericho fans. If you've never heard him sing then you have to pick up a copy of All That Remains and hear for yourself, just how amazing he is. What are you still thinking about it for? GET UP AND ORDER THIS RIGHT NOW! Yes, I see you taking out your credit card....yes you're about to order it......(3 days later). You: " YEAH I GOT MY FOZZY CD! WOW THAT GUY ON AMAZON WAS TELLING THE TRUTH! THIS CD IS AMAZING!" |
