5.0 out of 5 stars Great recording, January 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Atahuallpa (Audio CD)
I had never heard of Rumillajta prior to buying this CD, but I took a chance. I was pleasantly suprised. I believe they are Bolivian, but their songs include ones from other Latin countries. Their recording is different than other Andean recordings I have heard, but I can't quite place my finger on it. It seems just a tinge more contemporary, not bound by tradition. There are vocals on many of the tracks. There is alot of guitar and charango. The wind instruments are captivating. It's an extremely beautiful recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Andean band, June 6, 2001

After hearing this group performing on St.Paul Sunday on NPR I searched out their recordings. Of all the similar groups I've heard they are my favorites. The group is traditional-sounding but innovative at the same time. CD liner notes have most of the lyrics-some in Quechua, some in Spanish. Tunes are haunting, memorable, and fun-like being in the Andes with them. They do visit the US and UK occasionally. Catch them live if you can.
