5.0 out of 5 stars Really Cool!
The Atari 2600 is really cool! Even though the graphics might not me that good, it's still a really cool and fun system. Some games I reccomend are:
Missle Command

Vanguard

Yars Revenge

Space Invaders

Astroids

Combat

Pac-Man

Space Invaders

Donkey Kong...

3.0 out of 5 stars no switch
first off i did not get a game reset switch witch you need for most games, also the AC adapter didn't work. also it didn't come with a rca to coax adapter, so i had to go to radioshackto buy one if you want to play on a modern tv.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go Retro!, February 8, 2005
Forget all those new fangled games of today that are basically no more than interactive movies... step back into the world of the late 70's where gameplay and innovative design were the only way to make a game fun. The graphics on the 2600 were never amazing, even back then... but when gameplay is compared, some of the classics available on the 2600 blow away most of today's most popular titles! Go have some REAL fun... GO RETRO! GET Atari 2600!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun!, February 24, 2005
I love my PS2 and XBox and much as anybody, but the Atari 2600 is just as-sometimes even more fun. The games are short and action-packed so that you get as much out of them in a three minute session as you would with an hour session. Plus, most of them are "pick up and play" meaning you don't have to study a gigantic instruction booklet in order to grasp them or learn the any complicated plots. Here are some of my favorites that I highly recommend playing:

Q*Bert
Centipede
Millipede
Frogger
Spider Fighter
Tapper
Kaboom!

That is, of course, besides the classics like Space Invaders and Asteroids.

There were also some "adult oriented" Atari 2600 games released that you might find amusing or just plain offensive:

Beat 'Em And Eat 'Em/Philly Flasher
Custer's Revenge
Burning Desire/Jungle Fever
Cathouse Blues
X-Man
Lady In Wading
Bachelor Party/Bacherlorette Party

Some of the rarest and most highly desired 2600 games are:

Cubicolor
Swordquest Waterworld
Crazy Climber
Quadron
Q*Bert's Qubes
Chase The Chuckwagon

WORD OF WARNING: NEVER remove a game without turning off the power. I accidently removed my copy of Q*Bert before switching the power off and it broke the difficulty switch and the game cartridge. The game cartridge is now "frozen" and random events are always the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the Past and I love it!, January 11, 2007
I'm actually have more fun with these games than I do with the newer systems that are out. Maybe because it takes me back to being a kid again, but it just proves that just because it doesn't have the graphics that these newer systems have it's still a lot of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still wonderful after over two decades of use, July 20, 2006
I got my 2600 way back around 1980. Since then I have gone through several controllers (thanks to Activision Decathlon) and have had to clean my paddle controllers, but the fun is still there. After all these years, I can still play a mean game of Asteroids, Missile Command, Activision Decathlon, Kaboom!, Yars' Revenge, and so on. I have since supplemented my 2600 with an Atari 7800 which also plays the same 2600 games. The Atari 2600 will always have a special place in my heart.

If you have a 2600, look for an accessory called the Arcadia/Starpath Supercharger. It plugged into the cartridge slot and loaded Supercharger games from an ordinary cassette player. One of the best games for the Supercharger was their version of Frogger, whose graphics and sound rivaled the graphics and sounds of the Atari 5200 and the Atari 400/800.

BTW, some of the later games (1986-1990) are outstanding...especially Jr. Pac-Man, Solaris, and Midnight Magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The one that started it all, January 1, 2012
This review is from: Atari 2600 Video Computer System Console
You know what's pathetic? People my age (15 or so) have been suckered into games like Call of Duty. No one in my school even pays attention to Mario, Pac-Man, Sonic, or Halo (And that's in the same genre!). But if you are one to find the good in classics like I did, then prepare yourself for the Atari 2600, the game system that pretty much started it all (Yes, there's the Odyssey, but let's not count that)!

The Atari was a system that had video games with really primitive graphics. The sound effects were your average beeps and bloops, and there's often no music (Not the case with Pitfall 2, though). Most of the games had a pretty simple objective: To get the highest score possible. To go with that theme, there are also lots of arcade ports, such as Pac-Man, Mario Bros, Frogger, Asteroids, Pole Position, Dig Dug, etc. And wouldn't you know it: The system and games were successful, critically and commercially.

Perhaps one of the best things about these games now is that they cost a bit under $5 each, most of the time. So if you pick up an Atari, be sure to go find some good Atari games out there. I bet your $20 could find you a pretty good amount of video games that would be very worth playing. Some games I recommend are Pitfalls 1 & 2, the 80s arcade ports, and Spider-Man.
