This is a great system to get. These systems have been around for awhile and are still fun today. There are many versions of this system like the heavy sixer, Sears heavy sixer, light sixer, Sears light sixer, the 4 switch, the Sears 4 switch, the darth vader black 4 switcher, 2600 jr., and the Coleco gemini. There are also ways to play games for this system on other system like the 5200, 7800, and colecovision. The older ones have a built in rf cable so you will have to have a manual switch-box or something else. Most of the games are very cheap and games like pac-man are dirt cheap. Try to get a system with a lot of games so you do not have to get them seperately and you will pay less for shiping. Besides Atari joysticks and paddles other controllers will work too like the Sega Genesis controller or Colecovision controller. They work well and have many fun games like Pitfall!, Video Olympics, Defender, Missile Comand, Asteroids, Berzerk, Spiderman, Q-bert, Pitfall 2 lost caverns, Pole Postion, and so many more. If you want to relive moments from your childhood or want to experiance your parents joy then buy an Atari 2600 VCS and get ready to travel back to 1977 and later. Have fun!

Very much NOT as advertised. Supposd to be in complete working order with all necessary cords, etc. to hook up and play immediately. This seller also knew this was my husband's big Xmas gift this year and I contacted him directly to make sure he understood I needed a unit in top working order so we could play it on Xmas morning. Needless to say, the unit was broken and didn't play at all. Maybe it was the fact the seller just threw it and the five games into a priority box with absolutely NO padding to protect this delicate electronic equipment. Not so much as one piece of bubble wrap! The games were all banging against each other and the unit. I was beside myself with worry when it arrived and had to wait until Xmas morning when my husband unwrapped it and hooked it up to find out it was broken. Fortunately, my husband is very much an electronics nerd and after several days of working on it, fixing some broken things and replacing others, he finally got it to the point where it will play. You still have to turn the on and off switch about 25 times to get the game to pop into color though. So now he needs to replace that switch too. This seller is not to be believed. How can anyone mail something this delicate without any padding??? Don't buy from this guy!

The original Atari 2600 is my favorite system and #1 on MY list. I reccomend this system to anyone who's interested in the history of home video gaming or anyone who enjoyed arcades when they were younger, they would love this system with its arcade based like games. Atari 2600 is still the only system that sold millions of consoles in two decades, the longest run of any game system to date. In the early 80s there wasn't a home that didn't own at least one Atari 2600.
The game library is the largest for any system ever made having well over 1,000 titles because anyone who could put a program together could have it released for the Atari and because of that the game market crashed in 84 due to an over saturation in games and actually all game systems and games appeared to be dead, but Atari 2600 survived and continued sales into the early 90s. Anyone who's owned one knows how fun these machines really are even though the graphix are nothing like todays games, but that's also what makes them fun because it gives you the ability to use your imagination. Gradually, but surely todays kids are discovering and really getting into the whole retro gaming experience and they're finding out about Atari and have started buying up the old sytems and collecting the games that are now quite sought after and could go for a pretty penny when coupled with its instructions still in the factory sealed box.
I love my Atari 2600 and play it almost everyday. I really enjoy collecting the games for it. I actually play Atari more than I play my other systems. If YOU don't have the system that started the whole gaming revolution, GET ONE, I promise you won't regret it. Here's where you'll find it, GET IT NOW! While the prices are still affordable because as these things become more of a classic by the day, the more they're prices seem to climb.----> Atari 2600 - Video Game Console

This console is a masterpiece and lets have the gaming experience I didn't grow up with. I would of done anything to be alive during the Atari 2600 craze. It was one of the most important game consoles in history and the ne I got worked very well and plays some classic arcade games like Space Invaders, Ms. Pac-Man, Centipede, Asteroids, and many other enjoyable games. This is one of the greatest purchases I ever made on amazon and it makes me very happy to be able to play the legendary Atari 2600.

I will list all of the great titles to look for, as well as give you the link for buying up to 50 games for 100.00 or less free shipping. Atari2600.com is where to go.

Okay, now, I was born in the Early 90's, so i remember a time when games were not 3D movies, and in the Snes' Heyday, Mario was king. I never knew of the Atari back then, only heard my mom, grandma and aunt talk about how much fun it was and how cool all the games were, they really seemed to Love the thing back then. Yet, i still never saw one until i was 7, my mom brought home a weird looking consonle, that was small and had metal switches on it. I didnt know what it was, but it looked weird, and on top of that, It was a Sears model atari 2600, which i figured out later on.
My brother and i did not know what to do with it and our step dad hooked it up, I saw the COmbat cartridge and popped it in. Sounded cool, and Boy, me and my brother had a blast on this "NEW" gaming thing, and it was awesome shooting at one another from tanks. We wanted to play all night but we had to go to school or something, and i never recall playing it again until i was well up and grown as an adult. Now im Completely obsessed with atari and its 8-bit Pixel Action!

The graphics are pretty Dad gummed good, but who cares about the graphics because it makes up for that in gameplay. Top down action from Centipede, Zelda characteristics in Adventure, and there is even a Mario Bros. cartridge! YAY ME!

Now, the 2600 is not a "WIFI" kinda thing, its not a system that has a Internet option at all nor does it have any apps or downloadable content. Its the World's first Video game console ever and if you dont appreciate it, your just another sad 14 Y.O. who gets everything in a well to do mansion living off a trustfund and Playing 4 or 500$ game systems.
The Atari 2600 has all games imaginable from Genre to Genre, like Mind, Casino, Adventure, Action, Arcade, sports and even Space. There is a few RPG's as well.

Now, If you consider buying one online, your gonna need to know some stuff. First of all, TVs from 1970's didnt have all the options your flatscreen does today. And back then, Cable was just a concept. Most people had antennas and the atari included a switchbox to swap from Game to antenna so people did not have to go through all the trouble of Disconnecting their antenna Just to spend 30 minutes playing a game. I Grew up in the early 90's with nothing more than an antenna, SO one thing i know is that turning it to get a signal out in 30 degree weather just to watch seinfield is a B***h. And hooking up the antenna to the Tv was quite troublesome with some of Zeniths finer Behemoths.

Luckily, There is no trouble with the Atari 2600 today, and nearly 24 years after its Debut, its back again, stronger than ever. These little guys dont die, but do have maintenance issues occasionally, ill address that later, but when buying online, be sure to Have or buy, a Atari / Intellivision / Colecovision / Sega RF TV Adapter! HOOK UP YOUR VINTAGE SYSTEM TO A MODERN TV WITHOUT A SWITCH BOX!. This allows you to just simply screw the atari cord onto your cable slot on your tv with ease. its good to buy Replacement adapters and Video Game RF cable (Atari, Intellivision, Colecovision, etc.) Of Course RF cables. None of this is mandantory, but if your buying one without wires or controllers, this Will tell you what you need. Last but Not least, your gonna need A controller. Since its the 2600 it will be the CX model, or Atari 2600 Joystick Controller.

When you recieve your atari, its best to do the following procedures to Completely Refurbish your atari and restore it to Working order.
It took me 5 hours, but my 2600 is in top working order. However, I, Micah Coulter am not responsible for any damage you do to your atari. You must be Careful, Be sure to unplug the atari from any electrical outlets before maintanence. This is a very simple procedure and does not require any Soldering, Special skills or Mechanics. Its for the Average Joe.

1. Immediately take the top off of your atari and Look inside. Likely, since these guys are 25 years old, they have 25 year old Pet hair and dust in them. Youll need to take Qtips, for the delicate parts, and damp paper towels for the large areas, and Clean out all the crud until its spotless. Get behind the main chip and the Pin reader and be sure to get everywhere.

2. Next, to make the Pin Reader Refurbished, were going to Take a Q tip and smear Rubbing Alcohol on a cartridge's reading pin, or the metal part(for those who dont know what im saying) and Insert and pull it out repeadeately 10-12 times, and then put more alcohol on the Cartridge pin, and Repeat the process up to 5 times. Let the Pin Reader sit to dry for 30 minutes to an hour. This will not damage your Cartridge, so dont worry.

3. Clean the switches, and apply A tiny drop of Houshold Oil to a Qtip.Dab underneath each of the switches, after you carefully remove the Foam coverings, and Slide them up and down gently until you feel they are "smoother" at moving.

4. Put the top back on the atari.

5. Take Rubbing alchohol, and qtips and clean all of your cartridge's PINs. Each cartridge will likely be filthy and this step could take from 5 minutes to 2 hours
depending on your collection.

Let them sit and dry for 30 minutes and You should be good to go.

Replacement rods for the plastic piece in your controllers are available on the internet. Especially amazon. Last, and Most Important, are the Top Games of some peoples picks for the Atari 2600 VCS.

The system works great. Would have been 5 stars, but was supposed to be here between Jan. 27th and Feb. 4th. Didn't arrive until Feb. 10th. Not in time for my anniversary, so turned into a V-Day gift. Hubby loves it!

The game arrived in working order and is alot of fun to play. Had a small problem because I thought I was going to get an atari 2600 but recieved a sears version called tele-games. Most likely an error on the listing of product. Seller went above and beyond to correct this problem. You can trust this person selling on here to give you 100% satisfaction.

I give the atari 2600 a five star rating. A classic gaming system that is popular today as it was a long time ago.
