If you grew up in the '70s, like I did, and spent too much time, and too much money in the arcades, then you can't go wrong with this! For less than a Starbuck's cappucino, you get 18 of Atari's CLASSIC arcade games. And when I say ARCADE, I mean the EXACT SAME GAMES you pumped SO MANY quarters into!
Asteroids Asteroids Deluxe Battlezone Black Widow Centipede Millipede Crystal Castle Gravitar Lunar Lander Missile Command Major Havoc Liberator Red Baron Space Duel Super Breakout Tempest Warlords Pong Those games alone are worth the price of admission, to me anyway. And infinitely more fun to waste time with than Solitaire, (talk about LAME!) The other 62+ games look to be mostly ports of old Atari 2600 games, which ARE sort of lame, even by 1980's standards. But I've spent a few hours (re-living my childhood) playing those as well. If you're looking for cutting edge, 3D graphics, state-of-the-art video games, move on. But if you're looking for a cheap fun trip down memory lane, then you can't go wrong here. Don't get me wrong, I love my 3D graphics card, but these games re-kindle that old visceral excitement, and instant gratification that has somehow been lost in today's world of "everything's-gotta-be-3D-or-else-it-sucks" gaming paradigm. Regards, Classic Fanatic

Great Classics but watch out for the Spyware,

This is a great collection of the old classic atari games.
Unfortunately, the install includes the power reg scheduler and also attempts to add a browser search engine. In my opinion, the games are not worth the problems of having spyware installed on my machine.

Im not sure the other reviews quite sum this game up. The graphics are not terrible, there is no bundled spyware (PestPatrol does not know what they are talking about as it is and is an oversensitive spyware scanner) and is absolutely fun to play. The reason why one of the reviewers says "bad graphics" is because they did not take the time to go into the control panel for each game and select the "Enhanced Graphics" option to make them more like the original arcade classics. The game also includes desktop themes for users of Windows 98 and ME, and may or may not work on Windows 2000. They also took the time to create sort of a history mode that shows original sales material, original box art and manuals, and other promotional stuff that helped Atari sell their wares back in the old days. Even includes video interviews with the creator of Pong Nolan Bushnell. Oh... and yes... you can even use the Atari 2600 Roms from the Roms folder and use them with a third party Atari 2600 Emulator! Way Cool!
Overall a wonderful value and a great collection of Atari Games. I highly recommend this to people who want to relive their childhood days of Atari.

I saw another review that mentioned there was spyware in this game. I thought maybe he was mistaken, because I didn't think Atari would have so little self-respect as to do something like that. At the price of the game, it was a minor risk--I thought.
Well... I didn't even install the game. I chose the option to run the game from the disc for the first time. Immediately, Windows Defender popped up with a "medium threat" warning. I would have explored that further, to see what the threat actually was, but my whole system (I'm operating Vista) was acting unstable, a highly atypical state for my computer. I couldn't get alt tab to work and I couldn't get the game to close. I couldn't get to the Defender warning pop-up to click for more information. Task Manager wouldn't come up, either. I finally solved the problem by yanking the cord on my external dvd drive and disconnecting the game. I could finally exit the Atari window after that. I'm disappointed, both because I was looking forward to playing the games and because I had thought better of Atari. I'd like to think this was just a computer glitch and Windows Defender made a mistake, but by the behavior of the game itself, I'm thinking it was no mistake. What a shame.

After a purchase and return and a repurchase I still cannot load this disc on my computter, menus come up and I select games but every thing freezes and I have to abort all operations. Love the original games but am at a loss with this one.

This Game Dosen't Work,

The jewel case was cracked on both sides, to begin with. The game seemed to install fine but either locked up immediately or was so choppy I tried to exit it, then it locked up. A few times I had to reboot. I am running XP Home. I tried running it in compatibility mode with all win versions down to Win '95, set the video graphics to a very low level, and increased the memory allowance to max. Same results. I know how to install & run software, been doing it since '81. This program sucks! Don't buy it.

What I was hoping would be a fun present for my husband (who loved Atari games as a teen) ended up as a Christmas dud. We tried three different computers in our home, two systems on XP and one on Vista. Same problem with each. The game would install but instead of playing would freeze completely, requiring a forced exit. It's a shame because my husband is a huge arcade game fan. We're returning it and will hopefully find something else he'd enjoy, perhaps Zuma or Luxor. Don't waste your money on the chance it won't play in your computer either.

It was nice to play pong and some of the other old games, it took me back to the 80's which I did enjoy so much. The only flaw was that they were a little difficult to control with the arrows keys, instead of the joystick.

This game for the PC was supposed to work with Windows XP. But every time I tried to use it, the monitor would go black and my PC would totally freeze up to the point I couldn't even close it down -- had to hit the 'off' button. I don't know if there was a problem with the CD or what, but I've tired of trying to use it and have since thrown it out.
