I note that many of the negative reviews are from people who clearly didn't know what to expect. This is basically a modernized clone of the classic Atari 2600 video game system from the 1970s. Instead of using ROM cartridges like the 2600 did, however, this unit has a large assortment of games built into it -- 75 or 76 games depending on which variation. These games are of the degree of sophistication, graphics quality, sound quality, and such, of 1970s-vintage home video games, just like those you would have played on a genuine Atari 2600. If you're expecting anything more modern than that, then you're going to be very disappointed.

If you used to have a 2600, if you have fond memories of the games you used to play on it, and if you want to play those games again, then you'll probably be quite pleased with this. It seems to include true renderings of most of the games that were ever popular on the 2600.

Be warned, however, that the included wireless joysticks--as others have noted--have some serious responsiveness issues. Also, some of the included games are not playable at all with joysticks, and require paddle controllers, which are not included with this unit.

If you buy this product, please do yourself a favor and buy yourself also a pair of wired 2600-compatible joysticks, and at least one pair of wired 2600-compatible paddle controllers.

2.0 out of 5 stars not what I hoped January 12, 2014
Verified Purchase
The controllers had a serious lag time making these great classic games impossible to play with this set up .I went to the Atari site and purchased the app arcade version of these games for 10.00 for I pad or any other touch screen device of your choice. 100 games total . controls are perfect
WOW, Now its ON!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good purchase May 19, 2014

I give 4 stars to this product because of the ease of plugging, the quantity of titles, the good control of the joysticks and the price. I definitely recommend this product for all those who seem attached to the 80's and this kind of retro games, even for those new contemporary gamers. The 5th star would be own it if the main menu would be more friendly and visually shocking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun Overall February 10, 2014

The joysticks have a problem following the ball in several games, it is like they are not synced up properly. We are going to purchase the joysticks that connect with a cable, like the old fashioned kind we used to have. We are thinking that will help out, just wish we didn't have to spend the extra money. The old games are fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a big hit! December 23, 2013
Verified Purchase
I bought this retro game for my son (who is 36 and had the original), and my grandson (who is 10). I thought my grandson might find it boring compared to the computerized games he plays today, but they both had a lot of fun with it. They played for hours, and found several games they really liked. And it was surprising how challenging some of the games really are, even by today's standards.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's old is new again January 6, 2014
Verified Purchase
My daughter longed of the video games of old. So I went on a search for Atari, since they had the best games ever. Found this system which not only had the trusted Atari name. But had the games she longed to revisit. And to make things even better, the video games are built into the system. eliminating the need to store all the 76 video games which are now stored inside. Can't as for more than that... Highly recommend
