4.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia is king November 15, 2011

For those who remember the Atari 2600, the original one-button joystick that always broke, and those goofy paddles, this is for you. The app downloaded and installed fine on my EVO 3D. When first starting up, I was greeted by a really cool layout where each game is shown like you remember from the video arcades. Missile Command comes free, the rest you have to buy.

For those who gave the 1 and 2 star reviews for only getting one game, shame on you. It clearly states it in the description. You didn't rate this app properly, you're showing how cheap you are. Users can buy 100 games for $10 or singles for a dollar. Trying this out first is smart. If Atari just sold an all inclusive $10 app, you'd whine about not being able to try it first to see if it works on your device.

In closing, if you're the nostalgic type and want to relive those old school Atari memories, this is perfect. So far, I've only tried Missile Command and it was perfect. Exactly like I remember it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just as advertised! November 16, 2011
Great app. Those complaining about the free game can't read. It clearly states that you get on free and $0.99 for each one after. It's not fair to give a poor rating when they were up front with the marketing. Lots of fun and would recommend to anyone from the '80s gaming days!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Atari 2600-7800 classics!! March 3, 2012

Love this game!! At $1.00 a game, and its 100 games for $9.99, its a pretty good deal. I know some people have felt like they got ripped off, but the product review does say 1 game with download, and the rest are for purchase.
And when you think about it, the $9.99 price point is pretty good, since we pay up to that an more for apps on the Fire, or any other tablet or phone. So the product review is pretty easy to understand.
For those of us that grew up in the '70's and '80's will have an insane fondness for these games. And how much we miss these systems, despite how poor the controls were, and the graphics were sometimes, decent, at best, but still love them till the day we die.
Now I am just waiting for Pitfall and Donkey Kong, and my childhood will be complete. =) Thank you very much.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is what it claims. November 16, 2011
By J Karr
You only get one free game. But people shouldn't be upset when the DESCRIPTION says you only get one free and tells you the price of the rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent November 18, 2011

Test devices:
Samsung Epic, Android 2.3 official
Viewsonic gTablet, FrankenTab (Android 2.2)

First up, those of you that didn't alternate between pumping quarters into arcade machines and blowing into your game carts when they didn't work right will probably want to skip this. For the rest of you, this app is easily the best way to bring back some old memories of when gaming was young.

Atari's Greatest Hits comes with a single game, Missile Command. However, you can do in app purchases for game 3 packs for $1, or get the whole collection for $10. Games are broken down into roughly 17 arcade titles and 83 Atari 2600 titles. So, if you buy the whole deal, that's ten cents per game. Transactions for purchases are handled though Amazon, which takes away the worry of charges from unknown vendors.

The visuals are very good, as is the sound. Some may complain that the sound isn't reproduced exactly like the original, but one has to remember the speaker(s) in their device aren't exactly known for quality sound reproduction. You're certainly not going to get the level of bass out of them that many of them that even a generic TV can do.

The biggest worry I had was the control set. In each game, the software offers up multiple control schemes. Each scheme is set up so to make the game easy to play based on how you like to hold your device. I tried out each set on both phone and tablet, and they worked well. They worked even better when I changed the sensitivity setting that Atari thoughtfully put in. Switching between the larger screened tablet and phone was a little difficult as I'd become used to where the virtual buttons were, but in no time I was able to adjust and play well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Atari Rocks February 29, 2012

This is for the old school gamers. Anyone whose complaining about getting 100 games for $10, is obviously under the age of 35. Stick to your Xbox's & we'll rock out the Atari. =)

4.0 out of 5 stars great. One request. February 28, 2012

Its a great game just like the original. I purchased the in game content and got all of the game for only ten dollars which is pretty awesome and cheap. my only request is that.they add a favorites category so out of the 100+ games I could easily access my favorites. other than that it is pretty much flawless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Accurate Gameplay February 2, 2012
By Victory

Yes I bought the hundred game pack for $10. Money well spent. I could easily spend that much in quarters in a single afternoon when I was a kid playing Tempest and Battlezone. The Atari 2600 games are good for that Saturday morning, snowed in nostalgia but I don't spend much time there. The coin op games were always superior in every way.

Williams, Bally, Cameco, Midway, and Nintendo need to come out with similar game packages containing Defender, Stargate, Phoenix, Galaxians, Gorf, Donkey Kong and the usual suspects. Such a great idea!

Pong on Touchscreen?
In one of the configurations, you slide a thumb along the side. The movement can be accelerated so the paddle travels faster than your thumb. This is one of the few games that is done right.
