Holiday Horror for the Entire Family (Almost),
This review is from: It Ate Billy On Christmas (Hardcover)
For fans of dark-flavored holiday fare, Roman Dirge and Steven Daily's "It Ate Billy on Christmas" graphic novel is the perfect stocking stuffer. Laid out and printed like a traditional children's book, it quickly veers from standard children's territory when a monster, well, eats Lumie's brother Billy on Christmas. According to Dark Horse Books' summary, "Lumie knows it's not really a good thing to let a monster eat your brother, but she can't help but notice that things are, in fact, much nicer now that he's gone."
The plot is somewhat random and non-sequitor at times. The book might be difficult for young children to follow, but some of the language (while not profane) isn't directed at youngsters anyway. Children 8 and up (including black eyeliner-and-nail polish wearing teenagers) will enjoy Dirge and Daily's hilariously deviant story.

I ordered this without reveiwing it or reading it so I already knew what to expect from Roman Dirge, it is shaped like a big ol childrens book and I read it here at my university and people gave me strange looks because I was giggling and having a great time with my "childrens book" little did they know it is filled with sarcasm and silly words making it easy to follow!!! I got so much more than expected Steven Daily did the paintings in the book and they are just beautiful and fun!!! A couple bad words but I'm 20 so its ok :) just don't be fooled that its for the kiddos because it may give them nightmares and upset teachers. Maybe good for middle schoolers because they can handle this better. Its charming and you will enjoy it too especially if you read lenore comics (p.s. there are lenore dolls and drawings hidden in the paintings) its amazing!!!

Well, I felt in love with Roman Dirge's art with Lenore, and this book it's great cause has that dark humor and at the same time, those funny comments that Roman used to say when every new Lenore's edition begin, in wich he really goes away with what he's saying..like he's there talking to you, telling something he finds odd and funny, and going away with it. Really, this books is so pleasent to read, cause has that "mean" side, and at the same time, that humor that makes me laugh and fell care-free at the same time, it's those type of things that you feel "this is so Dirge", like he's there commenting it, you can fell he's mark, that evil and at same time great "childish" humor in it. I love it, a must have for me as a Dirge's fan.

My daughter, teenager, loves this book, and anything else by Roman Dirge. His writing is dark and definitely NOT for young children! Obvious by his titles.

This is a great collector item for Roman Dirge fans. Not as funny as Lenore, but definitely good fun to read to your in-laws on Christmas to watch their reaction.

The book is wonderful, everything I expected, with large picture and good color. The service from Amazon.com was quick and free on super saver shipping so I am throughly pleased with this purchase. The weirdness is just in the fact that Roman Dirge has an inventive mind with a slightly dark sense of sick humor but I like that.
