5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't shed, and covers a lot of ground quickly
The broadness of the brush means that I can cover a lot of area quickly. The bristles are tightly inside the holder, and it has not shed on me.

2.0 out of 5 stars If You Eat Bristles
You might like this brush if you like bristles. My first use on my beautiful Thanksgiving turkey left it with bristles that I had to pick off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality, December 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been looking for a good-quality pastry brush that isn't silicone (I have a couple of those which are nice, but really wanted this style as well). My only problem has been that the ones I've seen in the stores look awful - the bristles are falling out even while still in the packaging! There weren't many reviews for this brush when I purchased it, but at this low a price, I figured it was worth a shot. I'm glad I purchased it... it works great and the quality is much better than most I've seen lately! A good quality product, thanks!

I bought this pastry brush specifically for baking, mostly cookies and breads. My kiddos have a few favorite cookie recipes which call for glazing before and after baking.

I tried, really tried, to pull bristles out of it before its first use/trip through the dishwasher, and not ONE came out. After the first bath in the d/w, one bristle came out when I pulled. Since then I've used it half a dozen times with no bristle loss. To me, that's a good brush!

It covers nicely too, whether it's an egg wash or a thick cookie glaze. The bristles hold quite a bit, and of course if you want less on it, that's easily enough accomplished. I also like this size- the handle it not too long, comfortable in my hand, and the width is perfect for my uses.

I will definitely look at other products from this manufacturer based on this brush. Very happy with it!

This brush works just fine. I haven't had any problems with the hairs falling out.
Wish it came in different colors though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great soft brush!, September 15, 2011

I purchased the 1.5" brush specifically and exclusively to clean flour out of my grain mill storage container after milling grain. I tried my silicone pastry brush, but that was worthless for this task. I wanted something solid but soft, with enough bristles that the flour would actually brush out of the mill and fit into all the nooks and crannies. This brush fits the bill. It covered enough surface that the task was completed quickly, and didn't fling the flour like a stiffer brush might have. I've only had it a few days, and have only used it once, so can't comment on whether or not it sheds. So far, so good though. It is very thick, with lots of bristles, and the ferrule seems well secured on a nice wooden handle. Glad I found it on Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money!, December 10, 2011

This review is from: Ateco Flat Pastry Brush, 4 Inch Wide (Kitchen)
I make many delicious dishes using phyllo dough and wanted a wider brush to help preparation go faster. After I used this brush the first time, I discovered several bristles in the dish I had prepared as I was separating it for serving. I later checked the brush, and the bristles came out with a light pull. I wish I could get my money back as this brush is useless.

3.0 out of 5 stars 1.5" Ateco Pastry Brush, April 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This pastry brush looks exactly like the picture and it is a decent value. My worry with this is how long the bristles will last. When I washed it for the first time some of the bristles came out.
