5.0 out of 5 stars kitchen spatula
This small kitchen spatula is a necessity in any kitchen; that of the accomplished chef or novice. It's uses range from spreading condiments, jams or peanut butter to icing cakes. It facilitates releasing baked goods from pans or can get that last little bit of mayo out of the jar. Its versitality makes it a must-have in the kitchen.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is feeble and flexible
Ok I bought this because I wanted an icing knife that was long enough to do the whole top of a 9 inch circle cake. Unfortunately, while the knife is long like I wanted, it is too feeble and flexible to do much else. I can't stir the frosting with it unless I want to do a weak job, I can't frost the sides b/c of its flimsiness, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable pastry tool, January 30, 2010

Serious pie makers need this. One of the tools that when it's needed is invaluable. Lift that sticking bit. Support the crust as it's lifted into the pan. Wouldn't be without.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Kitchen Basic Tool, December 5, 2009

I use to own a similar tool years ago & would frequently wished I had it. This is a great replacement! I've only had it for a few weeks, but have used it many times. I made pies from scratch for Thanksgiving & this spatula made it so much easier to loosen the rolled-out dough & help lift it onto pie plates. Great size for lifting smaller cookies off the pan or lifting smaller cuts of cake, etc. It is more versatile in the kitchen than a butter knife for things like loosening the edges of a cake from the sides of a pan & then using it to serve pieces. An all-around great kitchen item. I never soak the handle in water & keep the wooden handle oiled periodically as I do with all my wooden cutting boards, bowls, handles, etc. to keep them from cracking or drying out. Very well made product that will last for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality for the price!, November 6, 2009

I was very impressed with the quality of the blade on this spatula. I bought it to replace a similar Wilton spatula and it makes the Wilton one seem flimsy. It costs about 1/3 the price of the current Wilton model. I decorate a lot of cakes and cookies and this type of spatula has become my #1 favorite essential tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ateco!, October 17, 2005
I love the Ateco palette knives which I have always referred to as spreaders. I have a smaller version of this tool and have used it for over 20 years. At that point in my life I decorated cakes for children's birthday parties (mostly my son's). This tool is one of the kitchen tools that I have owned the longest! I had no idea that I had purchased such a treasure back then. I recommend these palette knives to everyone who cooks and bakes and needs a tool that can really deliver a smooth coverage especially in frosting a cake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made to last, December 10, 2011
I have six Ateco spatulas, of different sizes and styles, which I bought in 1990. That's right, they are over two decades old and still as good as new and I use them every day.

Back then these spatulas used to be rather expensive so, in the beginning, I'd treat them with lots of care. However, I never coated their handles with mineral oil and the special care ended once I realized that the dishwasher wouldn't harm them (air dry only, otherwise the intense heat would crack the wooden handles).

The recessed spatulas are particularly useful for icing and frosting, but all styles are very versatile.

Excellent quality (these tools are made for professional kitchens), highly recommended.

I uploaded a photo showing four of my 20+ year old Ateco spatulas, click the "View and share related images" to see it.

It was just as I had expected. I have a large one I've used for years but I needed a smaller one for lesser jobs.

very good quality, practical and easy to use. I used for my small shores on desserts in the restaurant, also in something as practical as decorate cup cakes.

5.0 out of 5 stars MKC, February 11, 2011

I have a small cast iron pan. My Mother called it her egg pan, as it is the perfect size for breakfast egg dishes. 5". When I began to use this pan again, nothing was small enough or pliable enough for practical use. I had in mind the old-fashioned 2"W x 8"L pliable steel spatula. Started looking and discovered this Atco 4.5 blade tool on line. I wondered about the pre-formed bend or dip in the length of the blade. After using it just once discovered the versatility of this tool. Not only does it accommodate my old cast iron 5" but does a great job for all small size foods in all my pans (nope, don't mix non-stick surfaces with my food). Thanks for the engineering!
