I love my new bag. I play roller derby and I have been looking for a new bag to take on the road for my gear. Helmet pouch? Score! I am able to fit lots of clothing and gear into both sections and with the duffle able to convert to a backpack I am set. Pockets? Check and check. The two sections are very easy to zip apart and back together.

Here are my 2 complaints -
- The wheels on the base are a little close together so sometimes when you're wheeling it around behind you it can get off kilter and flop to the side. Not a big deal really, but slightly annoying when you have a heavy gear bag and you're headed to a far off terminal.
- When I originally ordered this bag I was under the impression that I could use it as a carryon - Both sections zipped together. Many companies actually advertize this as a selling point.
If you have it packed to the brim and both sections zipped together it WILL NOT FIT in an overhead compartment. It is roughly 3 inches too big/tall when laid down. I overcame this by playing dumb and just quickly zipping the two bags apart when I got onto the plane and sticking them in the overhead compartment. Once I had to check it at the gate. Disembarking was easy. made the duffle into a backpack, put it on and pulled the wheelie base behind me. Put it back together once I was off the plane.
If I had known this going into my purchase I probably would have bought the size larger so that I could have used the duffle/backpack section as my carry-on and had a larger wheeled bag to check and then zip together once I reached my destination. But as it is, I can't justify checking the skinny base for $15-30 depending on the airline.

Overall, I would highly recommend this bag. But is you're looking for a carryon I'd suggest checking out the dimensions of the other Athalon bags and maybe going with a larger size.

I bought this bag for my girlfriend to carry her derby gear in. She's able to fit her skates, skate tools, pads and extra supplies in it. The top portion has a nice little area to store the helmet too. Works well, she likes it.
