Adhering to the idea that speakers should be heard but not seen, this pair of Athena AS-IC6 speakers installs unobtrusively in the ceiling, where each takes up very little space while delivering topnotch stereo and home theater sound. Each speaker is equipped with a 6.5-inch injection-molded cone woofer with a rubber surround for high power handling and durability, as well as Athena's legendary 1-inch Teteron dome tweeter design for exceptionally clear high-frequency reproduction. The speakers not only offer a broad 55 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response--helping them excel as either front or rear speakers in a surround system--but the pivoting Teteron tweeters are timbre matched to mesh with other Athena speakers, such as Audition floorstanding and bookshelf models. It's never been easier or more affordable to create a versatile, custom home theater speaker system.

The speakers' versatility helps solve many of the installation problems common to rooms with unusual shapes or inflexible furniture layouts. Don't have the space for a couple of standard floorstanding or bookshelf speakers? The AS-IC6s function just as well but without the bulk. Installation is relatively straightforward thanks to the included mounting template, which helps you precisely mark the cutout location. However, as with any home project, good planning is essential. Homeowners should carefully determine the ideal listening location and find a spot devoid of studs, insulation, moisture, and debris (the AS-IC6s require a mounting cutout of 7.6 inches in diameter with a depth of 2.8 inches).

Additional features include power handling of up to 100 watts RMS and a 2.2 kHz crossover point. Each speaker weighs a mere 2.5 pounds and is backed by a five-year warranty on parts and labor.
