Every audio/video system needs a subwoofer to truly realize the benefits of today's five-, six-, and seven-channel surround receivers and A/V sources (DVD, HDTV, and digital satellite transmissions). The AS-P400 Audition series subwoofer from Athena Technologies features a built-in 100 watt RMS amplifier (400 watts peak), an injection-molded 10-inch woofer, and a solid medium-density Fiberboard (MDF) speaker enclosure. The Mosfet (metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor) amplifier ensures fast, clean power transfers between the amp and the speaker cone. The sub is recommended for medium to large rooms.
Mate the AS-P400 with a complete Audition speaker package for easy and seamless system integration, or adjust its variable crossover (40 to 120 Hz) to match your existing speakers--the choice is yours.
Athena's exclusive System Creation Technology (SCT) system is the company's answer to the often complicated setup procedures for home theaters. The SCT frequency dial on the sub's front panel is marked with the model numbers of each of the Audition series speakers. Just match the dial to the model number of speakers you'll be using, turn up the volume to a suitable level, and you're done. Setup couldn't be easier with flexible, well marked connectors, ergonomic front-mounted controls (not ideal for households with young children), and front-mounted drivers and ports for easier placement in your room.
Finished in black ash with a unique silver baffle, the AS-P400 cosmetically matches the Audition speakers perfectly. The sub measures 11.4 by 18.5 by 15.4 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a five-year warranty on parts and labor

I decided to buy the AS-P400 in addition to the Point 5 system by Athena Tech. after reading several glowing audiofile reviews on line. It's now been exactly a year and the system still leaves me grinning from ear to ear! The sub is tight, powerful and perfectly balanced with Point 5 speakers.
AS-P400 is a tremendous value and a true sensory delight, both for music listening and viewing your movies!

I upgraded my entire HT system from decent JBLs/Yamaha YST sub to Athena mix-n-match speakers and this sub (incidentally, the Amazon picture is incorrect - it shows the newer, somewhat inferior downward firing AS-P4000!). (update: Yes - they've now fixed the images as requested - this set of pictures IS of the AS-P400; thanks Amazon. Rest assured that the wooden enclosure looks very rich/dark and is solid - even though the photographs no longer reflect that)
I was absolutely blown away by how much more effective the Athena is than the Yamaha sub, despite having VERY similar ratings. It moves tonnes of air (almost literally!) and has great sensitivity. You no longer have to miss the low (intensity and frequency) rumbles and effect sounds in the background sounds or theme during intense dialog. It is shocking how much more immersive your experience will be by adding this almost-cheap sub! Setup is easy, I'm using a single RCA cable for pre-amplified LFE signal, because using the sub's internal crossover is moot now that I can set it's cutoff specifically for the Athena AS-B1's that are my front speakers. Truly a great value! Ignore the other reviewer's sour experience. Almost any respectable manufacturer will only warranty items sold ONLY through authorized vendors. And these Athenas are priced so well that there is almost NO point skimping a few pennies to buy from anyone but authorized sellers.
