Written for student assistants to trainers and physiotherapists, this is a text on the basics of athletic training. It aims to give them an understanding of what they will observe. It covers basic anatomy, care of common injuries, first aid, injury prevention, rehabilitation techniques, reconditioning procedures, other health concerns, administrative procedures, and the route to becoming a certified athletic trainer. It also discusses different types of injures, care and rehabilitation for each area of the body and how and when to use specific forms of padding, taping and bandaging. Each chapter has summaries and review questions, reinforcement activities, lists of key terms, questions, and accounts of actual experiences.

About the Author

Lorin Cartwright, MS, ATC, EMT, is assistant principal and athletic director at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a teacher and the school’s head athletic trainer for 15 years, she has extensive experience with all aspects of student athletic trainer instruction.

She won the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award from the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society in 1998 and the National Service Award from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association in 1997.

Cartwright is the author of the best-selling book Preparing for the Athletic Trainers' Certification Exam. She was the first woman and first high school athletic trainer to serve as the president of the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association.

Cartwright earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Grand Valley State College in 1979 and a master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan in 1981.

William Pitney, MS, ATC, is an athletic training instructor at Northern Illinois University. He has been a certified athletic trainer since 1988 and has experience in clinical, high school, and college settings. He has been an athletic training instructor since 1994.

Pitney serves as a consultant for the Northern Illinois Student Athletic Training Association. He has been published in the Journal of Athletic Training and has twice been named the first runner-up for best clinical article. Pitney earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a specialization in athletic training from Indiana State University in 1988 and a master’s degree in physical education from Eastern Michigan University in 1992. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

We are using this as Home School curriculum for our daughter to be a Student Trainer for our football team. It is laid out well, easy to understand and create a sylibus from. I highly recommend this for any students wishing to get in to athletic training.

I ordered my son's school book (Fundamentas of Atletic Training) over a month ago(July 16th) and I'm yet to receive it. I have no idea what's going on. School starts tomorrow and my son has no book as of today (8/ 22/2010). I've not receive neither the book nor my money.
