5.0 out of 5 stars AMD Dual Core...$60, December 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Athlon II X2 240 AM3 2.8GHZ 2MB 45NM 65W 4000MHZ Pib (Personal Computers)
This is my first AMD CPU and I am pretty impressed with it. The installation was a breeze and it will run in many a motherboards. It runs cool ever after a 20% over clock (3.36GHz) (35 C) with stock heat sink and fan. Even under load it still runs well. I have been using it to encode video and it does that in a breeze, a full DVD in under 20 mins!!

I recommend it to anyone who wants to try out AMD on a budget. Real NICE CPU.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice processor for the money, much faster than older pentiums/althons, March 19, 2010

This is a very nice processor for the money. Much, much faster than my other pentiums and athlons, and for only 50-60 bucks, seems like a no bainer.

I can edit photos/video, surf web and burn CD's/DVD's with no problems (processor in the 50% to 60 range). Even during heavy multitasking the radiator stays cool to the touch with the stock fan, not even warm at all.

My setup:
- This processor
- Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H Micro ATX Motherboard
- Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 4 GB PC3-12800 Core i5 Memory Kit (yes it works on AMD systems too)
- Antec Sonata III w/500w earthwatts power supply
- Windows 7
- wd 1tb caviar black and 250gb wd ide hd

This processor is a great buy if you are looking for a budget no-frills processor.

2 cores. Good speed and an excellent price paired with low power consumption.

Great for everyday netsurfing, Office and even gaming. For serious gaming get a 4-core Athlon or Phenom.

This processor is cheap, runs cool and overclocks well, out of the box with my Biostar Motherboard it scored a 5.7 in Win Vista 64 !

Not much else to say comes with a fan and runs great out of the box ...

I would reccomend this to anyone and would buy it again !

Easy to install, and can be overclocked easily due to its high modifier. Have been able to play Mass Effect to with all the setting on high, Fallout 3 at ultra high, and Crysis on medium. Would be great in an HTPC build.

4.0 out of 5 stars Athlon II x2 240 AM3 Processor, February 17, 2010
This review is from: Athlon II X2 240 AM3 2.8GHZ 2MB 45NM 65W 4000MHZ Pib (Personal Computers)
The processor was incompatible with the Mobo that I purchased it for (Asus m2npv-vm), kinda expected it since it wasn't on the list for the Mobo, swapped it out with another Mobo (Asus M3m78-VM) and it worked great. It works as it should.

I needed to build 2 computers for my siblings and this little guy was on sale on Black Friday. Got two of them, installed them and they worked without a hitch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast bargain priced CPU, January 28, 2010

This review is from: Athlon II X2 240 AM3 2.8GHZ 2MB 45NM 65W 4000MHZ Pib (Personal Computers)
My old Socket A finally bit the dust and I was staring down another semester of schooling so I had to work on a budget. I am quite satisified with this littel gem! This is my first dual core CPU and I'm excited about stepping up from 200-300 points per day Folding@Home [...] to 800-900 points per day! I also purchased a GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P Socket AM2+/ AMD 790X motherboard to go with. The motherboard was a little pricey, but well worth it! I can easily overclock this CPU on it. I currently have it at 3.1Ghz, and plan on seeing if it will go higher, but I have to have a stable CPU for folding. The difference between my old Socket A and this one is huge! This is a great bargain CPU if you don't want to, or cannot afford to spend a lot of money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice chip, October 16, 2009
This review is from: Athlon II X2 240 AM3 2.8GHZ 2MB 45NM 65W 4000MHZ Pib (Personal Computers)
I didn't buy this from Amazon, as I don't like the supplier.
This is a fantastic chip (as AMD's are). The supplied cooler in the "Retail box" should cool fine, but I picked up a better one. The OEM is much shorter so it will fit in many cases, but! The paste only covers a space the size of a nickel & there is more chip to cover (not that the one I got is much better).
Anyhow if you're looking to use this chip, do so. It's better than some & not as good as others. It is an inexpensive upgrade from a single core.
As with (most) all AMD's, you can overclock this chip. The one it replaced is going strong after six years.
Have fun with it.
