5.0 out of 5 stars Socket 939 price drop., March 14, 2007

This review is from: Athlon 64 X2 Dc 3800+ PGA939 2.0GHZ 512KB 90NM Var 110W 2GHZ Pib (Personal Computers)
A very good price for a full "Retail Box" 64-X2 Dual-core. It's running at 2010mhz as I type this (stock, without any over-clocking). Installed on a $40 MSI-7125 motherboard, I've left it turned-on for over ten days now and the CPU temp has not risen above 105 degrees Fahrenheit, so it's very stable.

For desktops the process Athlon 64 X2 3800+ is a great option, the cost is low and the performance complied with all the requirements for the current applications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Time to switch, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Athlon 64 X2 Dc 3800+ PGA939 2.0GHZ 512KB 90NM Var 110W 2GHZ Pib (Personal Computers)
My life is now better with a dual core cpu and 3 gigs of ram. This cpu can be easily overclocked to 2.4 ghz with only a 2 degree increase. Why not? Get some before they are sold out.

Even in the summer heat of Las Vegas, this processor ran below 100* F, which is very cold, meaning stable! It handled everything I threw at it and is still my favorite processor, especially for cramped CPU cases like mine. How much more powerful and cool it would be in a colder room and a better cooled case. Don't hesitate, get it while you can. Low power means cost-savings over higher voltage CPUs, thanks to the 90nm standard. The stock CPU is all you need, so you save even more money, without getting the motherboard bulge, which can dangerously put more weight and torque on your motherboard than the AMD standards clearly state. So do yourself a favor and stick with the better memory controller of the AMD design. Pros and cons for the cool running and powerful AMD clearly win over, especially with the true multi-processor 64-bit setup from this X2 AMD chip.

As we closed up our tests of the Dual Core Athlon 64 X2 from AMD, our conclusions were positive. With two processor cores on one chip, slow-moving computers are a thing of the past: multi-threaded applications run faster, as if the clock rate were boosted. But despite this trouble-free and powerful technology, AMD over-reached itself.
