5.0 out of 5 stars This book got me to take the plunge into Induction!

1.0 out of 5 stars You only need one Atkins book
Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution contained far more relevant information than The Atkins Essentials. Frankly put, if you already have one of the Atkins books, don't waste your money and buy more. All you need is one!

This review is from: The Atkins Essentials: A Two-Week Program to Jump-start Your Low Carb Lifestyle (Mass Market Paperback)
After 2 months of studying low-carb diets, I picked up this book and read it cover to cover. It motivated me to finally follow the Atkins way of eating to the letter and commit to the Induction phase of Atkins. I highlighted passages and bookmarked the menu section, which I read everynight during my two weeks on Induction. I was able to stick with the program while living in a house with two other adults who eat an extremely high-carb diet. The book helped to understand the program throughly, so I could explain my new way of eating to others. I lost 10 pounds during the two weeks, and I am now in the On-going Weight Loss phase. Atkins is now my way of eating for the rest of my life!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT WAY TO GET STARTED ON LOW CARB EATING, January 24, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Atkins Essentials: A Two-Week Program to Jump-start Your Low Carb Lifestyle (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the book to get you started on Atkins. It leaves out all of the scientific explainations for low carb dieting and goes down to the brass tacks of the Atkins Lifestyle. Contrary to what some may believe, this is NOT a quick start version of Atkins (actually, quick start is a Weight Watchers term). This explains the plan to get you started on the 2 week induction and
beyond. It is a great companion to the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. Buy this to get you started and then buy the original book to learn the all the scientific details of why this works.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Atkins Essentials: by Atkins, August 19, 2004
This review is from: The Atkins Essentials: A Two-Week Program to Jump-start Your Low Carb Lifestyle (Mass Market Paperback)
To answer some of the other reviewer critics, I say that no diet
regimen is complete without a program of exercise to aid in
optimal metabolism.

The Atkins Low Carb regimen is sound science because the author
very carefully points out the food groups highest in carbohydrates.
Foods like pastas, breads, cakes, bagels
and most wheat products are high in the carbohydrate count.
Fresh fruits and veggies are much lower.

In my own experience, 25 pounds was lost permanently by controlling
the carbs and doing little else. The regimen has included
exercise for most of my life. Atkins is not saying that
we should eliminate all carbs.

He calls for a reduction in the carbohydrate intake.
A strength of this work is that it provides model menus for
emulation by dieters. Besides sensible dieting, it is prudent
to eat earlier in the day so that the food is digested prior
to bedtime. Meals at bedtime tend to aggravate the classic
middle-age conditions; such as, IBS, Crohns disease and many
other gastrointestinal conditions too numerous to list here.

This work is still an excellent value for anyone serious about
weight control via sensible dieting routines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book - To rebut urban myth about Atkins., September 10, 2005

Hello!

The book is simply wonderful. Atkins has been the only diet that has allowed me to stay healthy and energetic while losing many pounds.

While on the diet, amazingly, I felt no hunger. This was a drastic departure from how I felt on other diets. A big factor in any diet is this: is the diet practical enough to maintain compliance for the long term?

My answer was yes. It allows so many delicious foods. It has been the only diet that has truly worked for me. The pounds just start falling off, just like the book says.

Now, to address the review made by "Why follow Dr. Fatkins? The Dead & Obese WeightLoss Guru, May 15, 2004 Reviewer:"wallis25" (USA)."

The idea that Dr. Atkins died of a heart attack is bunk. He died of a HEAD INJURY. The heart attack story is an urban legend. [...]

...and read down further. Upon admission to the hospital, he was a very healthy 195 pounds. His 60 pounds of weight gain while in the hospital was due to his organs shutting down, and him retaining fluids.

Please, in the future, check your assertations with reality and don't waste people's time with rumors.

But I digress. For all of you out there - go Atkins today! :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars A must have., April 5, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Atkins Essentials: A Two-Week Program to Jump-start Your Low Carb Lifestyle (Mass Market Paperback)
This is really essential for your Atkins/Low Carb library. Please be aware that this book will not (and should not) replace any of the more extensive books, but it is a must have to carry around with you for pointers, a quick read to get you back on track should you find yourself with an empty Wendy's bag in front of you and a #6 Biggie Sized combo in your tummy. It also is a good book to loan to those close to you, if they will read it at all. Since it is free of scientific terms and long-winded explanations, it is also ideal for anyone who wants to start the diet or just find out what it is about before getting into one of the detailed books.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Great if you like information summarized, March 25, 2005
This review is from: The Atkins Essentials: A Two-Week Program to Jump-start Your Low Carb Lifestyle (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this book. I read Dr. Atkins book from cover to cover which is very important, but this book is a great brush up or even for a person who haven't the time to catch the vision and need the basic details quick. Its GREAT for INDUCTION phase, it cannot replace the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, but it is straight to the point for the program. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Update of the Atkins Approach, January 28, 2004
This review is from: The Atkins Essentials: A Two-Week Program to Jump-start Your Low Carb Lifestyle (Mass Market Paperback)
For someone who needs an overview of the Atkins low-carb approach, this book is excellent. Those who have already read Atkins' earlier books (I have, and have lost 56 pounds, and am so far maintaining my weight loss) this book contains valuable new information not found in any of Atkins' earlier works. This includes a practical list of the number of individual pieces of various nuts that, taken together, approximate a standard serving of 1 ounce (28 gram). A valuable bibliography of recent biomedical studies (covering late 2002 and most of 2003, most of which have not been conducted in association with the Atkins Center, that support the Atkins approach to low-carb dieting (weight loss and maintenance of normal weight thereafter), is also listed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unnecessary, June 18, 2006
This review is from: The Atkins Essentials: A Two-Week Program to Jump-start Your Low Carb Lifestyle (Mass Market Paperback)
As one who had great success with the Atkins diet, I would say without reservation that such success is possible if one follows the programme exactly as it is outlined in the original New Diet Revolution, to which I'd give six stars if I could. The Induction period (first two weeks) is explained in depth in that book, and there is no need for a separate book to advertise products. In fact, the products are not only unnecessary (or no longer manufactured), but could sabotage the Induction period.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rapid weight loss version of Atkins., January 5, 2004
This review is from: The Atkins Essentials: A Two-Week Program to Jump-start Your Low Carb Lifestyle (Mass Market Paperback)
This new book, the first since the late Dr. Atkins passed on, offers a quick start rapid weight loss program using the Atkins program.I like the fact that this book also answers so many of the popular questions Atkins and would be Atkins users always ask me when I tell them that I am on Atkins. Now all I have to do is refer them to this book. Atkins is the most successful and popular diet prgram ever - only thing is that you get to eat so good and feel so great that it's hard to beleive that you are actually on a diet plan!Atins is the best and Dr. Atkins, rest in peace and thank you for sharing this revolutionary program with the rest of us.
