compact, useful, unobtrustive,

I like this CD rack -- I like that it's compact, and I like that it's aethetically neutral: the matte black wire makes the CDs look like they're suspended in air.
The base is a little large, making it a little difficult to place two of them side by side, but that's the only thing that could possibly be considered 'wrong' about the item -- and without the size of the base, the rack wouldn't be stable, so... I like that it provides different sized shelves, so collections fit as well as normal-sized CDs. I own two of these. If my CD collection grows beyond them, I'll buy another.

This is a superb CD rack for the space conscious music lover who wants to highlight their CD/SACD collection (or a portion thereof, for those with larger libraries) in a clean, aesthetic manner.
The well constructed rack arrives as four pieces (2 base halves plus two rack halves) plus instruction sheet in a 26" x 6 1/2" x 6 1/4" shipping box. Styrofoam and cardboard inserts provide reasonable internal protection during transit, as long as shipping incurs no serious damage to the box sides. Assembly is simple, requires no tools, and consists of plugging the two rack halves together (the lower half's socket ends accept the upper half's rod ends) and to the optional base. Alternatively, you can omit the base and wall mount the rack using the supplied screws and drywall anchors. I really like this tower's minimal, modern, matte black look, as it allows you to store your discs in full view while not detracting from the room's other more interesting design attributes. I used the base and placed the unit directly on a hardwood floor, a configuration that provides reasonable stability as long as neither children nor pets test its limits! All in all, I highly recommend this product and am similarly pleased with Amazon's pricing and delivery.

good--but with a problem or two, that is (three and 1/2 stars),

This Atlantic CD storage rack makes attractive CD storage a reality. It requires little assembly and the modern design gives it a sense of refinement that you don't always get with a CD storage rack. The rack could be placed in a corner; but perhaps putting it in a more attractive space will work for you. The rack is compact although the top can get a little tipsy at times; I use this rack but I leave the top few rungs empty just to be very sure it won't tip over. That does disappoint me and I will have to take off one and one half stars for that problem.
One plus is that you get to choose between resting this on the floor (which I did) or you can mount it on a wall. You might want to mount it on a wall if there are children or pets around so that they don't get into it too easily! It's also rather affordable; for the price I would estimate it holds about 75 to 80 CDs comfortably on the rack "shelves." There are a few shelves that are larger to accommodate two CD sets or CD box sets; but there aren't many of these larger shelves on the rack. If you have a lot of CD box sets I would recommend you try another type of CD storage rack. Overall, this attractive, easy to assemble storage tower houses CDs very well and the minimalist, modern design gives it a handsome appearance. It goes particularly well with modern or contemporary décor and it lasts forever (mine's about two or three years old already). The rack is easy to move about as it is only six or seven pounds at the most when empty (Amazon says it weighs 10 pounds); and you can even place it in a closet if you wish to keep it there for any reason.

Make sure it is attached to a wall or put a weight on the feet or it will topple over.

The rack seems fine until you start to load your CDs, it begins to tip forward like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

This Atlantic Onyx 1248 80 CD Tower is an inexpensive, space saving way to store your CDs. You could buy one of those fancy cabinets for your CDs, but if you want to save money and space this CD tower is the answer. The construction is sturdy. Also you can mount it on a wall or leave it free standing.

If you are the type of person that like tower CD stands that let's you read the side labels of your CDs, then this is the item for you! Easy to put together; it can either go on your wall or on the floor, or both for more stability. I would recommend this item!

not a stand alone, needs to be bolted to the wall,

I like the clean straight lines of this product so I bought this one. I wanted to have a free standing tower but it is to light weight. The CD's slide around if you even touch one much less try to pick one out in the middle. SO......... I bolted it to the wall and all is well. I love it now. Clean lines and it works just fine. Just dont get this for a standing tower, you will be disappointed.

I really like this CD tower. It was far easier to put together than I had imagined. It took me only a couple of minutes, and I am not very handy. It is also sturdy enough to withstand the attacks of a rambunctious cat. I would recommend this product.

Easy to assemble and attractive, but if less than 3/4 full, has a tendency to tip - especially on carpet - when moved even a little bit.
