Book Description

June 30, 1998
Atlantic Cruising Club reviewers have selected and visited hundreds of marinas - Maine to Florida (including Florida's West Coast) plus the Abacos. They've quizzed dockmasters, inspected heads, travelifts, pools and other amenities, checked out local services and markets, restaurants, inns, airports, etc. Then they've prepared extensive Marina Surveys and evaluated each marina on a scale of one to five bells. All of this material has been compiled into full-page, detailed Marina Reports for each of 380 marinas. In addition to the bell rating, each Report contains up to 200 items of information including contact data, dockage rates and prices, electric services and rates, pump-out, fuel, navigational access, reported depths, laundry, cable TV, pet rules, boatyard services, nearby recreation and entertainment, restaurants, accommodations, provisioning sources, transportation, general services, supplies, and medical resources. There are also descriptions of each marina's general environment, its operations, local events, area attractions and much, much more.

All this information is available in either book form or on a fully-searchable CD-ROM. In the Book, the Marina Reports are organized geographically from North to South with handy thumb-indexes. In the digital version, the Reports are easily searchable on 110 of the data fields.

For instance, one might wish to search for marinas in the Annapolis, MD area that have fuel, a swimming pool, laundry, cable TV, and pump-out on-site, a minimum of seven feet of depth dockside, are within walking distance of several restaurants, a video arcade, and cultural attractions, and within a mile of a source of CNG. Input all of those requirements and the program will give you a list of marinas that meet your criteria.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Whether you're planning some future coastal hop from the sanctity of your library, or surfing through an inlet at six a.m. after a week of dodging the Gulf Stream, nothing beats facts at your fingertips. And when it comes to marinas, those facts are often painfully elusive. From hard information on draft, availability of fuel, boatyard services and price-per-foot for transient dockage, to softer information on land transportation, accommodations, grocery stores, medical attendance and hospitality for onboard pets, there is a lot you might like to know before raising an unfamiliar marina on the VHF and tempting uncertain albeit temporary fate. If your movements take you anywhere between Maine and Florida (and even into the Abacos), relax. This reference work, formerly available on an exclusive basis to members of the Atlantic Cruising Club and now available to one and all, answers any important marina queries you're apt to encounter with a combination of up-to-the-minute data and carefully balanced ratings. No advertising - only info, and a lot of it. You'll find one entry per page, comprised of everything from who runs the dock office to the surcharge (if any) for 50-amp dockside electricity (if in fact it's available). Video rental nearby'? Find out here. The ACC's Guide to East Coast Marinas is produced in digital form as well as print, on CD-ROM for Windows 95 or on 3.5" diskettes. Digital search capability targets up to 110 different datafields, with filters and query formulae capable of limitless configuration. If you're somewhere off the Atlantic Seaboard, say, and you need a tetanus shot and a new cutless bearing, here's the fastest way to find out where best to go for one-stop shopping. This reference takes the guesswork out of putting in ashore. (Minimum computer requirements include Windows 95, a pentium processor, 20 megs of RAM and 10 mgs of available hard drive.) -- Quentin Warren; Blue Water Sailing; November/December 1998; page 15

Included with reviews and ratings of 360-380 marinas is additional info on boatyard facilities, restaurants, accommodations, and points of interest (No Advertising!). Digital version (Windows 95 CD-ROM) available for $19.95. Print Book plus digital Package is $24.95, and updates for Guide owners are on the ACC website. -- Cruising World, July 1998

This review is from: Atlantic Cruising Club's Guide to East Coast Marinas, Book & CD-ROM (Paperback)
Book was more than I expected. A lot of detailed information. I was able to contact several marinas and get inquires answered. The CD was also excellent, a cruise could be planned with ease, for stop off points using dockage rates. Highly recommended for planning first time cruises.
