Atlantic Technology: Starting a Sound Revolution
Some 19 years ago Atlantic Technology was instrumental in bringing about the Home Theater/Surround Sound revolution. Among our innovations are the first affordable THX certified surround sound system, the first three-way THX LCR speaker systems, the first horizontally configured THX certified center channel, and more. Today, making six or more high-performance speakers in a room visually acceptable drives much of home entertainment. Hence the meteoric rise of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Our own award-winning System 20 THX has proven, in no uncertain terms, the desirability and popularity of high quality, minimally-intrusive speakers. Now we're proud to introduce our most affordable in-wall speaker, the IWTS-4 LCR-IP; and with the new Atlantic-NetStream system, these speakers can accept a super-clean digital signal with the exact crossover and equalization data encoded for Atlantic speakers.
These dynamic direct sound speakers use advanced computer modeling to deliver exceptional performance from a compact flush-mount design. The 4 LCR-IP incorporates a 6 1/2" Injection Molded Graphite loaded driver cone for accurate midrange/bass reproduction with minimal distortion. Our exclusive 1" Low resonance Tweeter delivers exceptionally wide midrange dispersion for optimum coverage. A front mounted High Frequency Level control allows precise adjustment of the speaker's sound in any room.
High Quality Atlantic Sound--Out of Sight
Atlantic Technology Low Resonance Tweeter (LRT) |
"Entry Level" Doesn't Apply to the IWTS-4 LCR-IP Sound The Atlantic Technology IWTS-4 LCR-IP is our lowest-priced in-wall speaker but it borrows much of its technology and simplicity of installation from its more costly brethren. This speaker uses a 6 1/2" GLH (Graphite-Loaded Homopolymer) subwoofer for solid bass down to 57 Hz and Atlantics renowned 1" soft-dome Low Resonance Tweeter (LRT). Because of its low crossover point, this remarkable tweeter allows the IWTS-4 LCR-IP to deliver much wider midrange dispersion than conventional in-wall speakers for greater placement flexibility, without the severe acoustic and mechanical drawbacks of the so-called "pivoting tweeter." Heres why: The subwoofer in conventional in-wall speakers handles too much of the midrange and woofers send out the midrange like a flashlight beampretty much only straight ahead, with very little sound side-to-side or up-and-down. So even if these speakers have a pivoting tweeter, that doesnt really help, since its the woofer, not the tweeter, that handles the directionally-critical midrange frequencies. Whats needed is a speaker where the tweeter, not the woofer, handles more of the midrange, because unlike woofers, tweeters spread their sound out over a very wide area. Because of this, Atlantic has engineered an extremely sophisticated, high-performance tweeter (the Low Resonance Tweeter, or LRT) for the IWTS-4 LCR-IP, and it can play most of the middle tones as well, thereby relieving the woofer of having to do what woofers cant do. Our LRT tweeter spreads out the midrange sound over a much wider angle than the woofer, so the IWTS-4 covers the entire listening area beautifully in both the midrange and treble, even when its mounted high up on the wall. This tweeter technology was originally developed for our In-Wall Closed Box series (retailing for up to $1000 ea.), but is now available in the IWTS-4 LCR-IP, at a fraction of the price. We know of no similarly-priced in-wall speaker that can match its performance.
The Ease of Installation The IWTS-4 LCR-IP uses a separate baffle/frame installation assembly, so the frame and grille can be installed first and painted to match the room at the time the walls are being painted. The speaker baffle simply screws into the frame at a later date. Very convenient. A 3-position High Frequency switch located on the baffle lets the user tailor the speakers sound to the rooms acoustics, or to adjust the High Frequency balance for personal taste. For the perfect finishing touch, the IWTS-4 LCR-IP incorporates an aluminum tweeter faceplate with a precision horn, which optimizes the tweeters dispersion and gives the speaker an unmistakably consistent family appearance in keeping with our more expensive in-wall models.
Advantages of the Atlantic-NetStream System
Atlantic Technology's sophisticated crossover |

Atlantic-NetStreams System - A Better Solution A NetStreams system will relieve the speaker of having to perform crossover and equalization functions with a passive crossover, and instead moves those functions to the digital domain, upstream in the system, in the NetStreams amplifiers themselves. Here, those functions are carried out with absolute accuracy and perfect repeatability.
What would be really great is if you could combine the NetStreams digital precision with some truly outstanding loudspeakersthen youd have a system second to none!
Thats exactly what you get with the Atlantic Technology-NetStreams system. Atlantic speakers are world-renowned for their incredible sound, and have several unique design advantages that make them especially well-suited to being partnered with the NetStreams system. Atlantic speakers have sophisticated adjustment controls to optimize their high-frequency output for varying room absorptive characteristics.
We can do all these things. Atlantic and NetStreams engineers worked hand-in-hand for months to replicate every single one of the Atlantic equalization and adjustment curvesbut this time, its done digitally in the NetStreams electronics.
The Best of Everything This is the beauty and the advantage of the Atlantic/NetStreams system. By using the NetStreams amplifier and the pre-loaded Atlantic crossover/equalization files, you can dial in the exact crossover and equalization for the Atlantic IWTS-4 LCR-IP. Using the NetStreams system, the crossover and equalization functions are performed digitally upstream of the speaker, in the NetStreams amplifier. The amplifier is then connected to the Atlantic speaker with an easy Phoenix connector and a simple two-position toggle switch on the speaker bypasses the speakers onboard passive crossover.
This is the best of all worlds: a super-clean digital signal with the exact crossover and equalization data encoded for these Atlantic speakers. Everything stays in the digital domain, all the way from the recording studio until it reaches the speakers. Since the NetStreams DigiLinX system always distributes the audio completely uncompressed, it is finally possible to have a bit for bit copy of the original CD master recording in every room of the home!
The system sounds greatyou get every bit of performance out of the speakers that theyre capable of. Atlantic speaker innovation, coupled with digital precision. Its an unbeatable combination. And as a bonus, since were completely avoiding the passive crossover, we dont suffer any insertion loss. As a matter of fact, the system will play as much as 5dB louder, which means that NetStreams 50-watt amplifiers behave like conventional 160-watt amplifiers! Wow. The whole system plays louder, cleaner, with less distortion, and perfect uniformity from one to the next.
