5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on 2012 so far...
This is the best book I have read on the subject of 2012. Well researched, makes the whole subject of 2012 relevant in history and in today's terms. I have always been fascinated by the legend of Atlantis and this book takes one more step towards the argument for Atlantis and its relevance today. The Mayan connection is fascinating and also rings true to what is happening...

An interesting book and I greatly appreciate the amount and depth of research that Frank Joseph has done. However, he apparently buys in all too well to establishment viewpoints concerning life in ancient times on this planet. This requires him to ratchet his dates for the destruction of Atlantis into incorrect spaces. While cometary bombardments occur on this planet at least every 3600 years, the cometary bombardment that resulted in the final destruction of Atlantis occurred approximately 12,000 years ago. (Do a google search for satellite photos of the Carolina Bays for some excellent visuals). The diligent researcher who goes beyond the works of Joseph will come to this undeniable conclusion. The fact that there were highly technological civilizations in prehistoric times is born out by the highly accurate Piri Reis map, showing a sub-glacial antarctica (which was not available in contemporary times until made by aerial radar imaging), based on a map projection determined to have been made about 3800 BC. Mr. Joseph also appears to follow too closely the Egyptologist construction dates for the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid at Giza. Contemporary studies of the RAIN erosion of the Sphinx by Dr. Robert M. Schoch date the monument to well before 5000 BC. Of course, this does not fit in with the standard Egyptologist viewpoint, so it is ignored or angrily debated. The main point I believe I want to make in this review, however, is that one must keep an open mind and look at ALL of the data that is available, in order to have any understanding of the whole subject of Atlantis.

How chilling it was to read that Atlantis was destroyed because of the greed of the faction called the Sons of Belial. While this may sound as if it has nothing to do with us today, we too have factions that are at war with each other.
One group thinks that the world should be more fair. People shouldn't starve to death while a small percentage of the population has everything. One group thinks that we should find clean ways to power world, ways that don't strip the world of her resources, leaving a polluted scared mess in our wake. There is another group that says greed is good, the world's resources are ours to have no matter what the cost, and that people are poor because they want to be.

If you didn't know better, you'd think that Edgar Cayce was talking about our own society, not two strange groups called the Children of the Law of One and the Sons of Belial. But, history is more of a spiral than a straight line and as Churchill said, if you want to see into the future, study history.

What I really liked about this book is that Frank Joseph quote Cayce's material and then explains it. I have the hardest time with Cayce's antiqued, Biblical way of speaking so it's nice to have someone put it in plain English. There's even a dictionary of sorts, explaining all the strange names that Cayce talks about throughout his readings. The last chapter is called Last Chance or Judgement in 2012? Joseph does a find job of putting into language clear enough for us to get the message the Mayan left us with.

4.0 out of 5 stars History repeating: Relevant to gulf oil disaster today, June 14, 2010

This review is from: Atlantis and 2012: The Science of the Lost Civilization and the Prophecies of the Maya (Paperback)
Frank Joseph provides excerpt from Cayce stating that the materialistic Sons of Belial dug into Earth for the extraction of precious minerals. "They penetrated too deeply, however, and set off subterranean forces that resulted in catastrophic seismic upheavals." This eventually resulted in the destruction of Atlantis.

There are rumors that BP has also drilled too deep with it's deepwater project in the gulf oil penetrating a batholith and resulting in an uncontrollable spill including oil spilling from cracks in the earth several miles from the center of the drilling.

This book clearly has relevance to today especially in light of the gulf oil disaster occurring just a few years before 2012.

5.0 out of 5 stars New age libraries will relish the unusually concrete approach!, June 16, 2010
This review is from: Atlantis and 2012: The Science of the Lost Civilization and the Prophecies of the Maya (Paperback)
Atlantis and 2012: The Science of the Lost Civilization and the Prophecies of the Maya is based on over 25 years of research around the world and statements by Edgar Cayce about Atlantis and Lemuria, and shows how the Mayan calendar was actually brought to Mexico by survivors of Atlantis. Chapters explain how it was invented, how it predicts cycles of global creation and renewal, and coincides the calendar with scientific studies. New age libraries will relish the unusually concrete approach!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on Atlantis, February 17, 2012
This review is from: Atlantis and 2012: The Science of the Lost Civilization and the Prophecies of the Maya (Paperback)
I have read many books on 2012 and Atlantis and this one is top notch. I would say it is more about Atlantis than 2012, but that is great. I found it very fascinating how the author was able to combine text from Plato and psychic readings from Edgar Cayce to piece together a very thorough book. Being an author myself, I know how time consuming that process can be. I have read books on Edgar Cayce before and have been amazed at how accurate his predictions became years after he made them. To me, the book, Atlantis and 2012, gives us a rare look behind the veil of our hidden past to see a very possible portrayal of Atlantis and how we came to be who we are today.

I enjoyed the statement that the pyramids of the world were build by the Atlantians after they had fled their homeland. Other books such as Norma Milanovich's, Sacred Journey to Atlantis, also talked about how Atlantis was responsible for the pyramids. If nothing else, it makes you think and wonder if this is true, and if so, what it must have been like to live back then.

One of the most intriguing parts of the book, for me, was that Plato and Cayce talked about the psychic and mental powers of the Atlantians. My book, Awaken Your Power, talks about how our thoughts work to create our reality through such forces called the universal laws which include the law of attraction. Could these powers be remnants of the powers shared by the Atlantians in this book, Atlantis and 2012?

All in all it was a VERY interesting read. The book did get a little dark with 2012 predictions for a short period, but I just choose to ignore that part since I believe we attract our futures with our thoughts. Final vote: I think it would be very difficult to find a better book on Atlantis.

Frank Joseph has never been an easy writer to read, but always accurate and very informative.
One needs to have a reasonable technical background to follow him comfortably.

3.0 out of 5 stars What, me worry?, August 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Atlantis and 2012: The Science of the Lost Civilization and the Prophecies of the Maya (Paperback)
This is an interesting, insightful and ultimately depressing book about what may, or may not, happen at the 2012 winter solstice. I much preferred the first half of the book: The author investigated the Mayan and Aztec archaeology and legends, then applied modern scientific research to predict what version of the "apocalypse" we might get. I won't reveal his conclusions, but if he's correct you'll want to buy a nice warm coat -- and get off the electrical grid as much as possible.

However, the second half of the book is mostly based on the work of Edgar Cayce. That's not a negative if you're into Cayce, but for me it was too esoteric and suppositional. I'm not a student of, nor a believer in Cayce, so I basically skimmed the second half, paying it little attention. I did notice, though, that in reference to the Statue of Liberty, the author places it on Staten Island. (It's on Liberty Island, once called Bedloe's Island, near the New Jersey side of New York Harbor.) If he could make that error, how many others did he make that I did not recognize? It left me with a less-than-sterling opinion of the book.

However, the first part is interesting.
