Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

While beginning with the European conquest and ending with Native American survivals, this atlas mostly concerns the prehistoric archaeology of North, Middle, and South America. Interspersed with shaded relief maps showing site locations, style zones, and cultural boundaries are sections on special topics and major sites. An extensive, well-researched text unites the maps, illustrations, and feature sections so successfully that this book can be recommended as the best available introduction to Native American prehistory. It is the first such atlas for the New World, and most libraries should have it.William S. Dancey, Anthropology Dept., Ohio State Univ., Columbus

As a lay person, I found this book fascinating. It should be a standard text book for school as it covers the myriad cultures from the Arctic to the Antarctic of Pre-Columbian America in very readable interesting fashion including wonderful illustrations.

I would appreciate hearing from Mr. Micheal Coe regarding the several, separate finds of skulls showing morphology of possible proto-Caucasoid characteristics, recently the Kenniwick Man. On page 15 of the Atlas of Ancient America, written some tens years ago, Mr. Coe states catagorically " -----there is no doubt among physical anthropologists that native Americans are all of Mongoloid racial stock". Will he be willing to consider the possibility of even earlier migrants coming from other places of the Old World
