This review is from: Atlas of Ancient Worlds: A Pictorial Atlas of Past Civilization (Hardcover)
This book was so much larger (not thick, but huge) than I expected. A tall, wide if narrow book...and there is not one inch of bare space in it...which is good and bad. It is a little hard to focus on or find any particular information as it is all smushed in there filling up every nook and cranny...the information seems accurate (but I haven't examined it too closely...but nothing jumps out and I have a degree in Anthropology)...so that's good. It is a good book for a starting place to find something interesting to study on a deeper level. The clutter really does make it a little hard to really learn though, particularly for younger children who naturally are more easily distracted anyway. It's a good supplemental/coffee table/quick glance type book though, and the photographs, maps, and illustrations are well done.

My daughter and I both love this Atlas. The large maps that have a great balance between details of geography and relevant illustrations. They inspire rich conversations and wonderful curiosity. I only wish there was a good Medieval or Renaissance equivalent
