Editorial Reviews

Review

"Overall, this text offers a thorough but concise review of the avian hematologic system. The numerous glossy color photographs illustrate descriptions in the text well, and the index is easy to follow...the book's comprehensive review of all aspects of avian hematology, along with its dozens of clinically relevant, illustrative color photographs, makes it a terrific addition to any avian practitioner's library." (Vet Med Today, August 2010)

"A thorough but concise review of the avian hematologic system. The numerous glossy color photographs illustrate descriptions in the text well, and the index is easy to follow...The book’s comprehensive review of all aspects of avian hematology, along with its dozens of clinically relevant, illustrative color photographs, makes it a terrific addition to any avian practitioner’s library." (JAVMA, June 2010)

"One of the major delights of this book is the number of images. ... Images are clearly labelled and explained, allowing the inexperienced individual to identify the key features. The text also provides additional information to the more experienced individual, who may recognise the images on sight. Producing a book of this type where the images can be recognised on sight is not as easy as it sounds, and this is another reason why this is a valuable resource." (The Bulletin of the Royal College of Pathologists, April 2010)

“The images will assist practitioners and clinical pathologists in becoming more familiar with different species of birds and their hematologic response to disease.” (Doody’s, April 2010)

5.0 out of 5 stars An invaluable reference for the serious avian clinician or clinical pathologist., June 17, 2009
This review is from: Atlas of Clinical Avian Hematology (Hardcover)
This lavishly illustrated text covers a range of topics from blood collection and handling, hematological characteristics of birds, pathological and physiological influences on avian hematology to a brief but useful foray into the world of avian hemoparasites.

Ambitious in its scope (covering over 100 species of birds from diverse Orders), it succeeds in defining many of the particular hematological characteristics of diverse bird lineages and yet still remains a concise and practical reference for use by avian clinical pathologists as well as avian clinicians in private, zoo and wildlife focused settings. Furthermore, biologists and ecologists investigating the health of free-ranging birds will find this book particularly useful. Its strength lies in its clear descriptive text, accompanied by a wealth of full-color photomicrographs.
