This is an excellent book, if evaluated strictly on its girth. I find it invaluable for things like propping toddlers up at the table, sending slinkys down, and standing upon while reaching upper shelves.

The pictures are also quite nice, and I believe they saved quite a lot on the production costs by infringing upon the copywrites of numerous museums and archives.

While the text itself is chuck full of offensive lies, like blaming Darwinists for the 9/11 attack, I am willing to overlook this for the convenience of having a book that would be able to prop my door open in a tornado.

First, this is the most expensively produced book I have ever seen. It's 11x15x2 inches, weighs 13 pounds, is printed on the finest paper, and has about 1000 excellent photographs. But its admitted goal is to further glorify Allah, which it does by repeating assertions that contradict the most elementary evolutionary science. It compares photos of recently dead animals and plants with ancient fossilized ones, and says repeatedly that their resemblance proves that there has been no evolution. (In fact there has been very little evolution in the carefully selected species he shows, but lots in ones he doesn't show.) Strangely, the dates given are all those accepted by science, as are the explanations of fossilization, plate tectonics, etc., so the author's only apparent goal is to "prove" that all species were specially created by Allah. If you're teaching a class on fossils or evolution and can make the pupils ignore the text, you won't find better pictures of fossils anywhere.

Paralleling American Creationist works, this Islam-based "textbook" is founded on outdated scientific theories and religious texts - hardly a sound basis in which to dismiss evolution. The author, "Harun Yahya" is actually 51-year-old former interior-design student named Adnan Oktar. While interior design is a noble field, it's not what one would expect to count on when deciding the person has the scientific background for any substantive discussion of evolutionary theory. Although the title is accurate - "Atlas of CREATION" not "Atlas of Evolution", the product description that "living things are exactly the same today as they were hundreds of millions of years ago" and that "life forms emerged suddenly with all their complex structures" is incorrect - by accident or intention. While I respect all religions, misleading people is always wrong, and this book misleads in pretending to be something it is not. If you're reading for creationist arguments, this is the right book, if you're looking for sound discussion of evolutionary theory, then "anywhere but in this book" applies.
