Book Description

January 11, 1994 0415086841 978-0415086844 1St Edition
In this illuminating history, Dan Cohn-Sherbok traces the development of Jewish history from ancient times to the present day. Containing over 100 maps and 30 photographs, this is a comprehensive atlas of Jewish history designed for students and the general reader. It is ideally suited for those courses in Jewish or Biblical Studies, serving as a handy reference guide as well as a textbook.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This atlas contains some 100 maps as well as text that illustrates the history of the Jews from antiquity to the intifada. Probably one of its more unusual aspects is the inclusion in some instances of city plans. This is a useful reference work, particularly for those not familiar with Jewish history, but by now there are quite a few atlases on the subject. Most of the better specialized ones have been published in Hebrew and English by Carta Publishing House in Israel. However, a recent, more general work is the excellent Historical Atlas of the Jewish People ( LJ 12/92)--a distinguished predecessor and stiff competition to Cohn-Sherbok's work. The main drawback of this atlas is its spotty bibliography, which seems to have been chosen almost randomly. It would have been better not to include it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Atlas of Jewish history so far, January 4, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Atlas of Jewish History (Hardcover)
It's not glistening with color, but it's more thorough and scholarly than any other Atlas of Jewish history that I've seen so far. At the same time, the material in it is easily accessible to any reader.
