Book Description

October 31, 2004
The Atlas of Musculo-skeletal Anatomy is the parent of the best-selling The Concise Book of Muscles, and has been written as the complete reference guide for all students and practitioners of anatomy, massage / bodywork, physical therapy, chiropractic, medicine, physiotherapy, or any other health-related field. Containing over 520 full-colour illustrations, it is unusually clear, accessible, and readable. The book is arranged in two parts; the first section covers the anatomical movements, tissues, the physiology of bones and muscles, and in-depth information on the joints. The second part of the book clearly identifies the origin, insertion, innervation, action and blood supply (extensively cross-referenced) for each skeletal muscle.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book exudes quality, December 15, 2004

I have recently acquired the Atlas of Musculo-Skeletal Anatomy as a teaching aid and reference book. I have a number of such books, but this one stands out from the crowd. The clarity of information, both visual and textual, is outstanding. There are very few anatomy books that I would consider a good bedtime reading, but this is one of them (actually, the only one!).

Everything about this book exudes quality: what it says; how it says it; what it shows; how it shows it; the paper; and the cover. Truly a work of art and inspiration. Also, I found the extra information on body mechanics a welcome bonus.

I am just finishing up a semester of undergraduate nursing/pre-OT anatomy and found this book to be an excellent resource, especially for the muscles. For most muscle groups Jarmey has an illustration of each individual muscle along with its relationship to neighboring muscles. This was very helpful in preparing for the lab practical (got an A!). I purchased this book and not Jarmey's Concise Guide to Muscles because the Concise Guide did not cover all muscles I was required to know.

I have found that this book is very helpful in understanding and assisting my wife's recovery from Stroke. Unlike many other books on anatomy which tend to compress too much information onto a single page, this one has separate illustrations and clear descriptions of the action and function of each individual muscle. It is great for a layman like me.
