If you love truly love pipes anytime, anywhere, even when they are consorting with the other lowly instruments played by man, then you will be moved by this CD. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not For a True Scot!
Don't buy this CD if the thought of hearing traditional bagpipe melodies accompanied by piano and guitar makes you cringe! Not much of this CD is pure pipes, or even pipes and drums for that matter. This CD might be for you, though, if you don't mind the sound of other instruments with the pipes. Some of the selections are hard to find anywhere else.

If you love truly love pipes anytime, anywhere, even when they are consorting with the other lowly instruments played by man, then you will be moved by this CD. From the breaking surf at the beginning with faint tones of pipes coming to you across the open shore to the final track you will be stirred, uplifted, and glad you bought this one. For purists who only tolerate drums with their pipes, you have severely limited your pleasures in life but I understand. Pipes alone bring tears of joy immediately, this CD did admittedly take half of the first track of 'Morning Has Broken' but the feeling is so wonderful from then on that I may annoy my spouse with the play time of this CD in the next few days. The quality of the CD is excellent and you cannot say the pipes are lost in the other instruments. For those who decide to buy this one, pleasure awaits you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rob Crabtree is a great piper!, February 17, 2004

This review is from: Atmospheres: Scottish Celtic Bagpipes (Audio CD)
This is a very relaxing CD. Rob Crabtree has done another great job at recording his piping skills. The additional insturments flow nicely with the tunes preformed. If your looking for Pipes and Drums (Pipe Band Music) this is not for you. If your looking for a flawless solo piper, Bingo, get this CD! Good set of traditional tunes, but Amazing Grace could have been left off. It's on almost every piping CD. Great ending tune "Going Home".

I greatly enjoyed this CD. As others have observed this CD has bagpipes played along with other instruments, I don't have a problem with that. My only complaint would be that at times the pipes sound as if they are "canned."

4.0 out of 5 stars Hoped for truly Scottish Celtic tunes, September 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Atmospheres: Scottish Celtic Bagpipes (Audio CD)
The album does have ethnic instruments interwoven with an ethereal, new age kind of feel. It wasn't what I expected, but I like it a lot. I'm not sure what I expected, because I love bagpipes, and Scottish music; also I love Irish music. This should have been titled Irish, but it's traditional modern tunes rather than the older, more obscure tunes. It has piano in it, which I don't associate with traditional Celtic music. I suppose the cover attracted me so much I didn't pay attention to the song titles. I'm happy with it, but wish for more albums with authentic music from Scotland and Ireland that have music I don't know. Mind you, I love Danny Boy, but is it really Celtic?

1.0 out of 5 stars Good piping but bad songs, May 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

YES it is good piping and the man is a good piper however the choice of songs is not enjoyable listening music. If you what good-old bagpipes this is not for you. If your looking for elevator bagpipe music then this is it. I gave my copy away after the first review.
