5.0 out of 5 stars underrated art
This cd is an amazing example of the broad spectrum of EDM and the breaks genre. As the title suggests, the cd is an atmospheric breaks mix. It contains classic tracks which are mixed flawlessly by Fortier. He flows fluidly from track to track from beginning to end while keeping a healthy pace throughout the cd. 3.0 out of 5 stars I must be spoiled
I thought the album was so so. I was recently introduced to techno and break beats back in June after an incredible experience at Club Utopia in Vegas, where Simply Jeff was the dj. Since then, I've purchased both Simply Jeff CDs, which are great. I've been trying to get my hands on a comparable break beat album by other artists, but haven't had any luck. Are my...

It's unfortunate that Fortier drifted back into trance after this album because Atmospheric Breaks is a brillant cd that helps broaden the scope of breakbeat. If you enjoy trance or the trancier side of breaks, purchase this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent,Deep,Hard,Funky and Smooth all in one mix., November 4, 1999

This review is from: Atmospherics: Breaks (Audio CD)
Great track selection and perfect mixing on this one. Stand-out tracks being: the Farmatronic remixes of Miro"Paradise" and 3Drives on Vinyl"Greece 2000", along with the Hybrid remix of Energy 52's "Cafe Del Mar" and their own track "Kill City" (which most of us can't find on vinyl anymore),and the Nutribe remix of "No Resolve" by Fade(Chris's own production group). This cd just makes you want to play it again when it's done. Nice job Chris.-------And to J.K.Parks, you're not spoiled, you just haven't gotten tired of the same old beats with the same old samples. Give it time. Your tastes will mature, it's a natural progression. No offense to Simply Jeff, I like him and I like what he does, but he hasnt spun anything different or refreshing in 2 or 3 years now. If you want to be blown away by awesome breaks done by a group that actually makes music, as opposed to sitting in front of a computer with a sampler and a midi controller, check out the new L.P. from Hybrid,"Wide Angle".--G

5.0 out of 5 stars I Grooved all 68 minutes, December 15, 2002

The great thing about this CD is the grooves. Fortier picks tracks with the perfect combination that hits Funky, yet Deep enough for even this somewhat picky fan of Largly IDM and Drum n' Bass to enjoy thoroughly. If I had to describe this CD to someone I would call it Deep trance minus the boring four-on-the-floor, or LTJ Bukem without the frenetic pace. All in all, this is a great CD and should be added to any electronica fan's collection for lounging at home, or that drive home after a party.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply one of the best sets ever, February 19, 2005
This review is from: Atmospherics: Breaks (Audio CD)
From start to finish, this one is a melodic journey that is emotional, fierce and beautiful. The tracks chosen are all of the best released, with the smoothest breaks and hypnotizing vocals that create a unique and true progressive house sound. Chris' own "No Resolve" moves into "Path to Redemption" in an unbelievable climax. Wrapping it up with "Summer Breeze" reminds me of a 7am club closer. Chris' mixes are flawless as usual. I bought this when it first came out years ago, and it's still a regular in my deck. You need this CD.

This is a good compilation. Fortier takes you on a journey of trancy soundscapes and melodies. It starts off great, it ends off great too. But like most DJ compilations the middle tracks were weak at times - but that just makes the last ones sound that much better. Definetly worth owning if you like the melodies of trance more than the beats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent progressive breaks from a GREAT dj., October 2, 1999

Chris Fortier put together a great set on this cd, as he always does at all his live dj performances. Great track listing and a perfect mix. Some of the best remixes of UK trance tracks, and some unexpected gems from some top US producers as well.

i would rank this up there with BT's 'ESCM' and John Kelley's 'Funkydesertbreaks2' album. another one of those "pick you up and take you on a journey leaving everything far behind". very smooth breaks album.

Chris Fortier has put together an impressive compilation of Progressive Style Breaks. Easy to listen to, and very well mixed. It's a nice switch from the straight beat tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is transient worldly lyrical rich and royal listening., January 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Atmospherics: Breaks (Audio CD)
Only reason I went with 4 and not 5 stars is that I didn't like track 2 and the first 15 second of track 1 sounds like the "introduction welcome music" you get in a Sony surround sound theatre.

However, this album redeems itself in a mighty fine manner.

If you like breaks then you'll love these breaks. This album will lift you up, continue challenging you by changing pace and moving on.

Rich sounds and grand mixing make for royal listening.

The tracks mix and fade into each other so there is no pause.

This makes for excellent work-home-car-blading sounds.
