3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected from the reviews I read
This album is not as great as everyone would have you believe. 5 stars? C'mon. It's good, it's rockin', it's groovy and all that but, the album kind of sounds like one long song to me. My favorites were the straight ahead, simpler rockin' tunes. Some of the tunes get a little too "jammy" and kind of don't go anywhere or sound a little too classic rock. They even attempt...

I don't get the 2 and 3 star reviews. One guy doesn't like the jams and riffage. He wants more straight forward songs. Please, these guys rock out, jam and the riffs are just awesome. Buy this, and you'll see. It's too bad bands like this never get any air play, but crap like the white stripes and these bands like coldplay sell millions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the greatest grooving riffage 'round., August 16, 1999

This is Ed Mundell (Monster Magnet) at his absolute grooviest. I am a lover of the guitar. This album is like the second coming of christ. The cd pulses solid heavy groove after groove. Ed Mundell is a master, and lets it show here. The bass and drums are fittingly spectacular, pounding and purring. The vocals are slightly less than impressive, but they are mere howls of slight aggression which tie in nicely. I think there are only five songs with vocals anyway. The rest is just a sonic powered jam session that God himself would have fired a bowl and banged his head to. If you like good honest "jamming," buy, burn, and be very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Rock Heaven, May 4, 2002

Yow! Is 70's blues-based hard rock back, and to stay? No, actually it's not. But despite that, this is one fabulous hard rock CD. Ed Mundell borrows guitar left and right and it's downright fun, I mean Trower, Hendrix, Santana, Marino, and others - Ed borrows from them and adds his own twists, and it works. Oh, and the bass and drums, it's hard to figure out what "air instrument" to jam on. Everybody tries to steal the song, and the bass and drums are great. The vocs are also good, no problem there. This CD rocks and rocks, and although it's a "throwback" to a different time it does sound original; it does NOT sound like some cheap rip off by wannabees. Hard Rock Heaven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ed Mundell uses those guitar skills., July 13, 2006
This review is from: Atomic Bitchwax (Audio CD)
What initially brought me to this band was Ed Mundell, one of the great guitar gods of space/stoner rock. And I was right to be. Plenty of excellent instrumentals and solos on this album. The vocals are quite decent as well (whenever they come around). The whole album is extremely enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable album..., November 1, 1999

If you're a musician, this is one of those albums that makes you want to throw in the towel after you hear it. It's perfect, in every single way. Anyone who's seen these guys plays in Jersey over the past several years knows what I mean. The musicianship -- especially the drumming, which is absolutely mind-blowing, like Moon and Mitchell rolled into one, times one thousand -- is beyond incredible. A total heavy rock classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars way underrated over here - an absolute classic, November 25, 1999

I come from Scotland. The music scene over here in Glasgow, is poor but there is a movement over psychedelic type groove rock which is beginning to look mighty healthy for rock. Somebody's has to introduce MTV to REAL music. Like this. REAL music isn't about novelty gags or obscene lyrics to shock you. Someone has to get this point over somehow and marilyn manson is making a mockery of all the idiots in the major label business. I don't like the music but he sure is isolating the hypocrites. He is wrong though. Rock is DEAD? nononononononono..... wrong brian. Listen to any of the wonderful bands blazing out of new jersey and other nooks and crannies and you will find some of the best music going. This CD is just a classic. Ed Mundell from Monster Magnet is great in his main band, but this masterstroke gives him liberty to show off with his mates. I mean show off! How good is this. It is EVERYTHING you could wish for in a rock album and more. Perfect. Anybody who doesn't like this is stupid.

5.0 out of 5 stars This cd FLAT OUT ROCKS!!!, March 31, 2004
By
This review is from: Atomic Bitchwax (Audio CD)
You've heard the phrase that "good music never goes out of style". Well, this cd just flat out rocks like a tidal wave. Thank God for the return of the guitar solo. Where has it been hiding in recent years? You don't hear it much in today's so-called "new rock" genre. This band is hard rock, metal, jazz and funk with a boost of high octane 104 jet fuel. I stumbled upon this cd in a Border's bookstore (of all places) in their headphone listening section for new music. Being a long time fan of metal and hard rock I found this to be a jem. For more incredible guitar solos check out BLS's latest "The Blessed Hellride" and Iron Maiden's "Dance of Death". Up the irons!
