4.0 out of 5 stars Nicely done send-up of 1950s-era Sci-Fi
OK, just so you know, I'm a HUGE fan of both 1950s science-fiction movies, as well as modern-day "homages" or parodies. Also a big fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000; so when I saw the listing for Atomic Brain Invasion, (and subsequently checked out the trailer on YouTube) I got pretty darn excited - it's exactly what it appears to be - a low-budget, but surprisingly...

3.0 out of 5 stars Bad 50's Sci-Fi/Horror Designed For a Good Laugh
They tried pretty hard to make a period-piece set in the 50's on a super small budget and actually succeeded from time to time but, period accuracy aside, the film is ridiculous and good for a laugh, If you find yourself in the mood for cheesy sci-fi horror with fun practical effects and bad digital effects then you're in the right place.

OK, just so you know, I'm a HUGE fan of both 1950s science-fiction movies, as well as modern-day "homages" or parodies. Also a big fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000; so when I saw the listing for Atomic Brain Invasion, (and subsequently checked out the trailer on YouTube) I got pretty darn excited - it's exactly what it appears to be - a low-budget, but surprisingly well-produced take on those wonderful films of the Fifties. Starting off with a hammy introduction (a la "Plan 9 From Outer Space [Blu-ray]") by an earnest, redundant "scientist" on grainy black and white film, the movie switches to color, and introduces us to all the stock players who populate these kinds of films: the nerdy, intelligent kid; the girl who secretly loves him; the bully/jock (who harbors his own secret passion), the clueless townsfolk, and the HOO-RAH Army General, all of whose lives are altered forever when not one, but TWO alien devices crash to earth. Add to the mix a credible Elvis impersonator (with requisite rock-a-billy musical number thrown in), and you've got a great send-up of every teen monster pic from "The Blob (Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]" to "Mars Needs Women".

Best of all, the production values (for an independent picture) are surprisingly high - special effects are cheesy but fit the genre; the direction and acting are all as good as you'd find in other, similar pictures (see: The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, The Lost Skeleton Returns Again and Alien Trespass [Blu-ray]), and the actors all play it straight, never devolving into cheap humor or sarcasm. Best of all - it's CLEAN, a few little sexual innuendos here and there, but no language, nudity or overt gore (the cover, showing the head being ripped in half is FAR more explicit than what's in the movie) It's not rated, but I would probably give it a solid PG. Extras are skimpy - just an audio commentary and some trailers that are far more gruesome than what I would've expected for such a family-friendly release. Anyway, if you enjoy this kind of thing, don't hesitate to pick this up, as it's one of the more surprisingly faithful send-ups of the genre to come along.

4.0 out of 5 stars "ELVIS MEETS THE SLIME-BRAIN CREATURES!", July 10, 2013

Yes, B~Movie-Within-A-Movie Fans, grab your girl and head on down to the Malt Shop at 5th and Nowhere Street. Elvis is coming to sing his Rock-A-Billy heart out-but first must stop those slimy, icky, dangerously hilarious Atomic Brain Creatures! Do not let the cover fool you: It is NOT as GRAPHIC as it appears. More slimy, drippy oozy than gory. Besides, the romp 'N stomp dance number will distract you and make you roll over with laughter at the zany proceedings! The Movie Sp00F is out to pay tribute to every B~Movie Horror/Sci-Fi Movie it can cram in! So curl that lip, Elvis! It's time to get all shook up as the Atomic Brain Invaders come to a Town near you!

I can't get enough of these Grade B (Cult Classic) Movies. This one ranks with the Troma Series and The Incredible Melting Man. Great to laugh with and unwind!!!

Fun for some...but for me it was like a well done low budget High School projet.
I was born in the late 50's and i know all the science fiction films...low budget
and all....and the feel of this film is not of the 50's but of the 90's who tried
to do a 50's film.

This is a wild and crazy movie! So many characters, all of them funny; and so many different things going on. Love the smooth, velvety voice of the Elvis impersonator. He sounds better than the real one! You might have to watch it more than once to catch
on, but it's great.
