Old, New, Borrowed, Not Blue...,
By
This review is from: Atomic (Audio CD)
Old, new, borrowed, not blue. The best way to describe this album. The band borrowed from old three cord rock and gives it a new sound. They are loud and bodacious. But they have the right rythem and beat. On many songs they bring back flashes of Seventies and Eighties bands, like The Producers or Elvis Costello. Their music drives with an energy that sends your mind reeling. Even on a slow song like Happy in the Meantime, there is an energy that radiates like an atomic bomb. On tunes like Sunny Weather, you will hear a sound like the Beach Boys on Steroids. Slip, into a sweet and tender ballad and be carried on a tidal wave of desire to hear more from Lit. Over My Head is from the Titan AE soundtrack and show us what most people at the Grammys have forgotten. This is what music is all about. Atomic, aptly named. Get in into your ears and crank it up.

Best Lit CD to date,
By Eric Manian (San Fernando Valley, SO CAL) - See all my reviews

After the mind-boggling success of Lit's sophomore effort "A Place In the Sun," expectations were quite high for "Atomic." I thought to myself that there's no way a Lit song could get any better than "My Own Worst Enemy," after all, that was my IDEAL summer song of 1999. Yet, when I first heard "Lipstick and Bruises" on KROQ back in Sept., I knew the boys from OC were back with a bang! I was pretty surprised to see "Over My Head" on here, but anyway, all songs rock. These days, there's a lot of angst-ridden, depressing songs on the radio thanks to bands like Staind and Puddle of Mudd. I mean, who wants to hear that stuff? Instead, I prefer the poppy rock tracks of the Popoff Bros. that always manage to bring a smile to my face and happiness in my heart. Addicted can be the sequel to Miserable, Sunny Weather could easily have been on any Beach Boys CD from the 60s and Slip sounds like the ultimate Queen song of the 70s, with it's arena-rock-like hooks and lyrics. The overall tone of the album reminds me of some of Elvis Costello's early 80s efforts and his influence is certainly noticeable. Drop D is a great track too, yet, my personal favorite has to be "She Comes," mainly because of Jeremy Popoff's hooks and A.Jay's back-and-forth changing of vocals. CHECK IT OUT!

The Best Lit Cd,
By "kingofrock379" (New York) - See all my reviews

I know a lot of people would disagree with me on this one, but I feel that Atomic is the best Lit album to date, better than Tripping the Light Fantastic and better than A Place in the Sun. The songs on this album are exactly what you would expect from Lit, it is heavy yet poppy, with great guitar, great vocals, and a solid rhythm section. Some of the best moments on the album are the more rockin songs like Something to Someone, The Last Time Again, Next Time Around, and She Comes. These songs are exactly what you would expect from Lit. There is also the excellent acoustic ballad Happy in the Meantime which is a great change of pace. There are also songs that lead to the heavier side of their sound such as Drop D and the first single Lipstick and Bruises, and theres actually one straightforward pop song, Sunny Weather, it is one of the strong points of the album. Last but not least there's my personal favorite song on the album Everything's Cool. This song is supposed to be My Own Worst Enemy pt.2, the lyrics supposedly tell about the morning after, everything about this song is great, the lyrics, the music, the vocals, hands down the best Lit song ever. This is definately a strong release from one of the most talented new bands out there, this is a "real" rock album that everyone should own

A Place in the Sun Part II,

I was not quick to buy "A Place in the Sun" when it was released in 1999, but instead waited to jump on the bandwagon after "Zip-Lock" was released. Once I gave the whole CD a spin or 2 I have to say it was one of the best pop/punk/rock albums released in 1999.Obviously my expectations were high for "Atomic." Basically not a whole lot has changed. I like all the songs off "Atomic" with highlights being "Something to Someone", "Addicted" and "Everythings Cool." Bottom line: if you liked "A Place in the Sun", you'll like "Atomic." If you haven't heard Lit before but you like other bands like Eve 6, Fuel, 3 Doors Down, Green Day, Blink 182 or The Refreshments (circa 1996), you'll probably like this! Peace. Enjoy.

Atomic,
By A K (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Atomic (Audio CD)
I've listened to all of Lit's CDs, Tripping the Light Fantastic, A Place in the Sun, and Atomic. Although that all of they are great, this, by far, has to be the best. There is something for everyone on this CD. A.Jay's awesome, frat-boy-like voice, Jeremy's incredible guitar skills, Kevin's intricate bass riffs, and Al's fast-paced drumming make for an incredible CD. "Addicted" seems to be the sequel to "Miserable," with A.Jay singing "I'm so addicted to you, and you're such a dick to me." Most of the lyrics are delivered with a nudge and a wink, and everything is tied together with clever, joking wordplay. In "Sunny Weather," A.Jay says, "I've got alot of good drugs, but I don't know how to use them, so I threw them in the trash, and now my dogs are high as hell." Most of their lyrics are funny. "Happy in the Meantime" is new experience for the band, because it's their only acoustic track ever. All in all, it's probably the best album out there. Get it, I guarantee that you won't regret it!

Improved, Supurb, Cool,
This review is from: Atomic [Limited Edition with Dirty Martini Bonus CD] (Audio CD)
Hey. I'd just like to say that Lit's new CD, Atomic, is truly excellent. I view it as a follow-up from A Place in the Sun. The group hasn't lost its touch, their music is still great! The songs are energetic, fun, and certainly worth getting. I think it's an improvement from their previous cds (if that was possible). The moods of the songs vary through the cd so each one sounds different. Atomic still has the same pop-rock influences from before and the overall sound of Lit. Each song is strong and wonderfully done. I wouldn't call it my favorite CD, but it's one worth buying. Worth the 5 stars. Just for frame of reference, my favorites would be: Addicted, Happy in the Meantime, and Sunny Weather, even though choosing favorites from a group of songs like these is pretty tough.

great album,

without a bad song on it, this album is just as good as their previous album. it's hard to choose my favorite, but i think i can narrow it down to the lovely "happy in the meantime", the perfect "slip", and the blissful "she comes". ok, i guess i would have to say that "slip" is their best song ever, and the other 2 rank among "zip-lock" and "my own worst enemy". but the rest of the songs are great, too, with clever lyrics and catchy choruses and verses. these guys really know how to write songs.
