5.0 out of 5 stars Great solution for expanding my DVR Storage.
I bought this device after recently upgrading to a HD DVR setup. I was constantly having to clear space for my new shows. I got the Atomic DVR Expander plugged it into power and connected the included ESATA cable, and restarted my DVR - as soon as the DVR came back on it prompted me that a new external storage device had been connected and had increased my storage...

3.0 out of 5 stars True plug and play! But not a true dvr.
I needed an esata external hard drive for my DVR. This hard drive has esata and usb 2.0 connections. It comes in an attractive case held together by 4 screws at each corner. Inside the case, there is a 1TB Hitachi hard drive. The on/off switch is at the back and when it is plugged to electricity and turned on, there is a green light that comes on in the back - to let you...

This review is from: Atomik DVR Expander 1 Tb (1000gb) for Comcast & DVRS - BLACK
I bought this device after recently upgrading to a HD DVR setup. I was constantly having to clear space for my new shows. I got the Atomic DVR Expander plugged it into power and connected the included ESATA cable, and restarted my DVR - as soon as the DVR came back on it prompted me that a new external storage device had been connected and had increased my storage capacity by 4X. I highly recommend this product to anyone having issues with recording all the shows they want.

Surprisingly worked. I figured for the price it wouldn't work well or be difficult to install but it only took minutes and I never had problems accessing it. Saved me hundred or so dollars versus similar products and it does the exact same thing, and if I ever get rid of my dvr I can use it on my computer as just a normal external 0hard drive.

I needed an esata external hard drive for my DVR. This hard drive has esata and usb 2.0 connections. It comes in an attractive case held together by 4 screws at each corner. Inside the case, there is a 1TB Hitachi hard drive. The on/off switch is at the back and when it is plugged to electricity and turned on, there is a green light that comes on in the back - to let you know that it is on. It runs very quietly and never gets hot - just slightly warm to touch. After plugging it to my Moxi 2-Tuner 500GB HD Digital Recorder, the drive was recognized and ready to go in less than a minute. I have had the drive for about 2 weeks now and it has worked well so far.

I have to add an update. While it does work as described above, I have noticed that my dvr does not recognize the hard drive after a few days. I then have to manually switch the drive on and then off again. This is annoying. I think this may be because I was sent an external hard drive instead of a true dvr expander - the hard drive probably goes to "sleep" and therefore the dvr does not recognize it, while a true dvr expander does not go to sleep. I have therefore ordered the WD dvr expander and will now use this as a back up hard drive for my computer - at least it will not be a total waste!
