Book Description

Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter are the most common sustained arrhythmias in clinical practice. Although there has been an increased awareness in the last several years of the potentially serious clinical consequences of both arrhythmias, understanding of basic electrophysiologic mechanisms and optimal management strategies have advanced significantly in recent years.

This book presents a comprehensive summary of current knowledge in this field, covering in one volume the spectrum from basic mechanisms to clinical manifestations and management options. The subjects are clearly and concisely presented by an international faculty that represents the premier authority in their particular fields.

Of particular interest is the extensive and up-to-date coverage of the most recent novel management strategies, including the new antiarrhythmic agents, dual site atrial pacing to maintain sinus rhythm, the implantable atrial defibrillator, and radiofrequency catheter ablation techniques to interrupt atrial flutter and fibrillation and to restore sinus rhythm.

Although this book will be most suitable for cardiologists with noninvasive or invasive practices, as well as cardiology fellows, the clinical sections of the book may be of use to the general internist who frequently has to provide primary care to cardiac patients.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Atrial Fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia problem faced by practitioners and is increasing in frequency with population aging. This is finally getting the attention it deserves. This book attempts to integrate basic and clinical observations on atrial fibrillation. It is a worthy objective." (Doody's Review Service)

"Atrial Flutter and Fibrillation, which brings into focus electrophysiologic mechanisms and the importance of the insight they provide in treating patients with atrial fibrillation, is a valuable addition to a growing body of literature." (Annals of Internal Medicine)

"...the editors have compiled a readable and authoritative text covering a complex and clinically important subject. While a welcome addition for cardiologists, in an era when primary care providers are asked to manage more complex issues, this text offers an excellent background for all those caring for patients with this common and often difficult to treat disorder." (PACE)
