4.0 out of 5 stars A great live album!!, January 9, 2001

If you're reading this, that means you must be either an Emperor fan, or curious about all the fuss. I have no additional accolades to give to one of the most amazing bands on the planet, just that they make killer music.

This live disc is a real treat. A virtul 'best of', and wonderfully recorded Emperor concert is what's in store here. After seeing them on their '99 summer US tour, this disc is a great reminder of how awesome that show truly was. And now with the news that Emperor will be an exclusive studio band in the future, the necessity of this live album is apparent.

All is not positive though. Some of the signing is off, and the recording does not have a flowing concert feel (ie, they cleary fade off the intro to Decrystalizing Reason, which they played on tour, but is absent from this disc). The soundtrack is also identical to the video which was released a few months prior, which presents the question of why have both?

Bottom line: great live disc with some flaws, killer production from a great band.

4 Stars

5.0 out of 5 stars the best live black metal album ever, July 14, 2001
By
This review is from: Emperial Live Ceremony (Audio CD)
all right, so there aren't a lot of live black metal albums to choose from, but this is very good. the sound is much better than most live albums - all the instruments are present and mixed well. this album really captures the spirit of emperor, and thhe track list contains a lot of their best songs. there are the low points of an elegy of icaros (not a bad song, really, but awfully executed, since it is almost purely clean vocals, and ihsahn has spent too much of the night screaming), and sworn, which is just plain bad. but the high points are so high, yuo don't notice. for those who never listen to emperor, or any black metal, this is almost as good a starting point as "in the nightside eclipse". for those who already are familiar with this band, buy it. it's exceptional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spot on live recording, December 11, 2004
This review is from: Atrocities (Audio CD)
This CD is great for any fan of Emperor, or black metal in general. Emperor had lower quality recordings for most of their older albums, and they didn't really come up to par for typical studio recordings until their newest album. This is a great chance to hear one of the best black metal bands of all time, let alone one of the greatest bands of all time, play their music they way it was meant to be heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great live album by the almighty EMPEROR...., September 6, 2006

I've always wondered if EMPEROR could de capable of doing on stage what they do in their albums, I mean, without the studio behind. And, man, what a way to do it...Emperor brings us an incredible live performance with old and new songs, including a few from "IX EQUILIBRIUM" which at that time was their last album...

The album has an excellent sound, which help the songs to stand out. You can tell the difference between instruments and you won't listen one covering the other....Mosst important, the band manages to play really fast songs, like "YE ENTRANCEMPERIUM", without making a "noise ball". All the instruments "flow" together in harmony, helping the band to recreate the climaxes of their songs...And you have the chance to listen some of EMPEROR oldest songs with a new sound...And they sound great!...

About the individual performances...What can be said about them??! Ihshan's chaotic vocals and apocalyptic screams, Samoth's fast-riffing guitars, and Trym...well...is this guy human?!?!?! Along with these three, you have Tyr on bass and Grimloch on keyboads...

With such performance and sound, I wished this album had 12 or 13 songs....But, considering the length of the songs, the show could have been really long...

Anyway, for all EMPEROR fans...An Album that deserves a listen for the excellence of their musicians and the quality of their music! HAIL EMPEROR!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably good!, July 10, 2000

What a great CD! The production is fantastic (thankfully). I was afraid that some of the songs might lose something when performed live, but that was not the case at all. Very, very brutal stuff!

Anyone with a shred in interest in Emperor or musical genius in general should wrap their ears around this, the production is as good as any studio recording and it contains all the greatest Emperor tunes, Supreme!

Check out the Vid too!
