Originally published as The Quiet Storm (1998), this book has been completely revised and rewritten to include the sports and athletes that have become more prominent in the last five years. The growth in popularity of women's sports has been a long time coming. Many, many women have worked very hard behind the scenes to make today's professional and gold-medal winning Olympic teams a reality. But this book is about more than just the female athletes, it's about their relationships with each other, their families, their children. It is about the frustration of having to fight to have the same opportunities that male athletes have always had. It is about getting into the boys' club without wanting to be one of the boys. It celebrates women's strengths, humour and honour and the way women's participation in sports can positively influence girls and boys.

About the Author
Alexandra Powe Allred is a former member of the US Women's Bobsled team and an accomplished martial artists and continues to teach kickboxing while juggling her career as a full-time writer and mother of three. She is the author of ten books and currently lives in Midlothian, Texas.
